New Delhi CNN —The CEO of a Chinese live-streaming service backed by Tencent has become the latest high-flying executive to fall mysteriously silent in the world’s second largest economy. According to a Monday report from the Cover News, a state-owned media outlet, DouYu (DOYU) CEO Chen Shaojie has been unreachable in recent days. It also cited unconfirmed reports that Chen was being investigated and had been missing for nearly three weeks. DouYu listed on the Nasdaq in 2019, where it raised about $775 million in one of the largest share offerings by a Chinese company on Wall Street that year. Chen’s unexplained absence comes as China continues an anti-corruption crackdown that has ensnared top executives, particularly in the finance and tech sectors.

REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Europe has nowhere to hide from U.S. plans to mandate clearing of U.S. Treasuries transactions that will need to be carefully introduced over time, a global derivatives industry body said on Tuesday. A clearing house is backed by a default fund, ensuring that a transaction is completed even if one side of a transaction goes bust. Regulators began mandating the use of clearing more widely in derivatives markets after the global financial crisis in 2008 to improve stability and transparency. "It's something that you need to look at carefully and at this stage I think we still have more questions than answers as to how the actual process of clearing Treasury cash and Treasury repo will play out," Litvack said. Much will hinge on the details in the final rules that determine who will be within scope, O'Malia said.

Hong Kong CNN —Zhang Hongli, a former senior executive at Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), is being probed by China’s top anti-corruption watchdog, in a sign of a continuing crackdown in the country’s financial sector. State-owned ICBC is one of China’s “Big Four” banks and the world’s largest lender by assets, according to S&P Global. Prior to joining ICBC, Zhang worked at Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs, where he held senior management roles. They include three top executives at the highest ranks of China’s financial world, who have either been probed or charged, according to the commission. In October, Li was expelled from the Communist Party and arrested for allegedly taking bribes, according to Xinhua.

Both changes to the process for designating a non-bank as a "systemically important financial institution," or SIFI, were proposed in April. Friday's vote reversed a Trump administration policy that regulators should police risky activities rather than single out individual firms. Under the revamped process, FSOC will identify potential SIFIs based on existing information and give the company a chance to respond. Similarly, the Managed Funds Association, which represents hedge funds, said non-banks do not pose the same risks as banks. "The guidance imposes a black box designation process that introduces uncertainty for market participants," said MFA President and CEO Bryan Corbett.

Step back far enough, and you can see exactly what is driving so much geopolitics today: Ukraine is trying to join the West. Or they would have agreed to Lend-Lease assistance for the allies only if President Franklin Roosevelt would eliminate the I.R.S. That’s why today America must help Israel and Ukraine to blunt the Russia-Iran axis in their theaters. But the morning after their wars, Israel and Ukraine are going to have to face some very hard choices. Because while we may write big checks to both today, they will not be blank checks.

Yes, the fervent hordes clattering around TikTok and reality TV attest that many still prize celebrity, influence and their attendant financial promise. Consider Emily Blunt , a movie star who recently prostrated herself after being savaged online for fat-shaming. Describing a woman who served her at Chili’s as “enormous.” Ms. Blunt unleashed the epithet more than a decade ago on “The Jonathan Ross Show,” a U.K. television program where she was appearing to flog her latest film. Mr. Ross, who like Ms. Blunt is British, was whooping it up with his guest about lavish food portions in the New World, joking that “you can see why so many of our American friends are enormous.” Ms. Blunt joined in with her account of the meal at Chili’s—“the girl that was serving me was enormous”—without specifying which outpost in the nationwide chain she patronized.

London CNN —The UK has abandoned a cap on bankers’ bonuses, in its latest push to boost the competitiveness of London’s financial industry following Brexit. “A bonus cap is not routinely imposed in other leading international financial centers outside the EU,” the regulator added, noting that the cap had been identified as “a factor in limiting labor mobility.”The UK government has long been opposed to the cap and believes that lifting it will help shore up London’s position as an international financial hub. Brexit made access to Europe’s vast market for financial services more difficult and costly for UK-based banks, and London has lost some business to cities such as Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam. Britain’s financial regulators have since echoed these concerns and the PRA said Tuesday that scrapping the cap would better align pay with performance. The UK government has come under increasing pressure to deliver post-Brexit benefits for London, the center of Britain’s hugely important financial services sector.

Donors often give for specific purposes — facilities, faculty research, technology on campus, athletics, scholarships and financial aid for low-income students. The Wexner Foundation said it’s breaking off ties with Harvard University, alleging the school has been “tiptoeing” over Hamas’ attacks. Lawrence Summers, the former president of Harvard and US Treasury Secretary, has criticized the “morally unconscionable” student statement and Harvard leaders’ response. While the human tragedy dominates the broader global news agenda, its hold on global markets has typically loosened pretty quickly. Inflation-adjusted real rates matter more when deciding whether to hold gold. The 2014 Gaza War lasted about six weeks and saw Israeli forces cross the border into Gaza. However, the characteristics that members of this group generally displayed fall in line with common financial goals for many Americans who dream of retiring one day. They don't have consumer debtWealthy retirees in this study were the least likely to have credit card debt and auto loan debt, two common types of consumer debt. According to EBRI's research, only one in five wealthy retirees had auto loan and credit card debt. Compared to the average retiree, that's significantly less — in the average retiree category, about half had credit card debt, and about half had a car loan. The resulting number is a good estimate of how much you'll need to retire comfortably.

Federal prosecutors hit Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., with 23 additional charges Tuesday, including allegations of identity theft and that he charged a supporter's credit card in excess of their contribution and then transferred the money to his personal bank account. He's also alleged to have been involved in a credit card scheme where the campaign would charge contributors' credit cards repeatedly and above FEC individual contribution limits. On another occasion, he allegedly "charged $12,000 to the Contributor's credit card, ultimately transferring the vast majority of that money into his personal bank account."
