LOS ANGELES, Dec 17 (Reuters) - A famed mountain lion who became a Los Angeles celebrity after living in the shadow of the Hollywood Hills for over a decade was euthanized on Saturday because of severe health problems, California officials announced. The ageing mountain lion, called P-22 and thought to be about 12 years old, was captured in a Los Feliz backyard on Dec. 12 amid fears he had been struck by a car and was suffering other health problems. The cat, who had traversed busy highways to take up residence in and around Los Angeles' Griffith Park, became a symbol of campaigns to save California's threatened mountain lion population. He was put to sleep at 9 am on Saturday at San Diego Zoo Safari Park, officials at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) said. "Mountain lion P-22 has had an extraordinary life and captured the hearts of the people of Los Angeles and beyond.
Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade earlier this year, there's been an uptick in the number of vasectomy requests at my clinic. In the two days immediately following the overturning of Roe, we received 150 vasectomy appointment requests. We were averaging five or six electronic appointment requests for vasectomy consultations per day before the overturning of Roe. I tell my patients that the vasectomy is meant to be permanent sterilizationWhile I love doing reversals, they're not 100%. I think vasectomies are fertility medicineThis is a procedure that I like to do and I think I'm good at.
In early October, my family of three got dressed up in green and posed for our local family photographer. I’d planned to print the photo on 75 Christmas cards and send them to everyone we knew. The reality TV star famously edited her daughter into her Christmas card one year when the girl “refused” to participate in the photo shoot. I knew the people on my Christmas card list wouldn’t be cruel about my daughter’s stains. I’ll keep the edited photo on my computer, just in case she wants me to reprint another canvas and Christmas card for our photo book.
Following the news that actor Kirstie Alley died of colon cancer at age 71, several doctors and cancer specialists urged people to get the recommended screenings for the disease. Alley's manager confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday that the actor died of colon cancer. Colorectal cancer is the fourth-most common form of cancer in the U.S. and the second-most deadly behind lung cancer. The National Cancer Institute estimates that around 151,000 cases of colorectal cancer will be diagnosed this year. Colon cancer can be difficult to diagnose, however, since symptoms can resemble those of other conditions like hemorrhoids or irritable bowel syndrome.
Reuters could not determine the full scope of the federal investigation or whether it involved the same alleged problems with animal testing identified by employees in Reuters interviews. Musk has pushed hard to accelerate Neuralink’s progress, which depends heavily on animal testing, current and former employees said. Delcianna Winders, director of the Animal Law and Policy Institute at the Vermont Law and Graduate School, said it is “very unusual” for the USDA inspector general to investigate animal research facilities. In September, the company responded to employee concerns about its animal testing by holding a town hall to explain its processes. “We’re extremely careful,” he said, to make sure that testing is “confirmatory, not exploratory,” using animal testing as a last resort after trying other methods.
“I was just so thirsty to get a BBL,” Velasco said. 7Q Spa also has positive reviews on Yelp and Google, where it averages a 4.5 star rating. The front door of 7Q Spa is side-by-side with Vitality Medical Center, which, according to California business registration documents, has the same CEO as 7Q Spa. After the surgery, Velasco said she felt great and, at first, she couldn’t feel her stitches at all. The California Medical Board revoked her license as part of the settlement, but stayed the revocation and granted her a 35-month probation.
A 2020 study, for example, found using marijuana before entering the hospital for a surgical procedure made pain during recovery significantly worse. In fact, the optimistic attitude generated by a placebo can be powerful enough to affect study results dramatically. A unique part of the study looked at the role of news and social media for the placebo effect in cannabis clinical trials, Jensen said. Researchers found positive media coverage after each of the cannabis clinical trials, even when the study results were less than spectacular, she said. “I don’t think you can explain the placebo effect or blame it on social media.
Of particular importance is information about how many seniors die, develop disabilities, can no longer live independently, or have a significantly worsened quality of life after major surgery. “What older patients want to know is, ‘What’s my life going to look like?’” Cooper said. Invasive procedures that take place in operating rooms with patients under general anesthesia were counted as major surgeries. Two years ago, Gill’s team conducted research that showed 1 in 3 older adults had not returned to their baseline level of functioning six months after major surgery. This includes assessing older patients three times a day for delirium (an acute change in mental status that often afflicts older hospital patients), getting patients moving as soon as possible, and using non-narcotic pain relievers.

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwan has welcomed a pair of experts from China to help with an ailing panda in a rare opportunity for contact between the sides. The two experts arrived Tuesday after Taipei Zoo’s Tuan Tuan, suspected to have a malignant brain tumor, took a turn for the worse. The giant panda and his mate, Yuan Yuan, were gifted to the zoo in 2008 during a time of warming relations between China and Taiwan, which split amid civil war in 1949. Sixty vasectomies will be offered over three days in and outside Planned Parenthood clinics in St. Louis, Springfield and Joplin to uninsured patients during the first week of November amid what the clinics say is a surge in demand for the procedure. Guarin also plans to offer discounted vasectomies that month at his regular clinic in the Des Moines area. Guarin, who serves on the medical advisory board for the World Vasectomy Day, helped offer vasectomies last year at the Planned Parenthood in St. Louis to raise awareness about the procedure. In July alone, the Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri performed 42 vasectomies, compared to 10 in the same month last year. Dr. Margaret Baum, the medical director of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri, will be partnering with Guarin to provide the free vasectomies.
But some physicians and patient advocates say the health care investments of private-equity firms and their drive to reap relatively short-term profits are inconsistent with putting patients first. Independent academic studies find that private equity’s laser focus on profits in health care operations can result in lower staffing levels at hospitals and nursing homes. Neither the FTC nor U.S. Anesthesia Partners responded to voice mails seeking comment; a spokesman for U.S. Anesthesia Partners confirmed the inquiry to the Journal, saying it is cooperating. NBC News asked both of NAPA’s private-equity owners about the disputes involving the company and the research showing higher costs associated with private-equity ownership of anesthesiology practices. Covid was sweeping the country and Moses Taylor was doing its best to respond to the health care crisis, according to its lawsuit.
Julian Sarafian, a graduate of University of California, Berkeley and Harvard Law School, quit his $200,000-per-year job in 2021 to manage his anxiety and depression. In 2018, after graduating from Harvard Law School, I landed my dream job at a top law firm in California. But here's the biggest downside of success that no one talks about: the deep anxiety — and eventual depression — that often goes ignored. From Harvard Law to severe anxiety and depressionMy grandmother and I were very close. When the pandemic hit in 2020, my mental health spiraled even more, and I found myself unable to keep up with my workaholic habits.
Before the procedure, she told her physician that she did not want medical students to be directly involved. But after the operation, Janine said, as the anesthesia wore off, a resident came by to inform her that she had gotten her period; the resident had noticed while conducting a pelvic exam. “What pelvic exam?” Janine, 33, asked. Later, she said, her physician explained that the operating team had seen she was due for a Pap smear. The hospital declined to comment on its policies regarding informed consent for pelvic exams.)

The amendment has been invoked in this way only three times before, and coincidentally, each time has involved presidential colons. The 25th Amendment of the Constitution was passed in 1967 after fears about presidential succession after President John F. Kennedy's assassination. The first time this happened was on July 13, 1985, when President Ronald Reagan sent a letter directing then-Vice President George H.W. The first case occurred on June 29, 2002 when he invoked the 25th Amendment and allowed Vice President Dick Cheney to act as president on his behalf for two hours and five minutes. In both cases, Bush, like Reagan, had undergone colon-related procedures, but his were of a much more benign nature — they were routine colonoscopies.
