Among other things, Musk said the social network is "moving to having a small monthly payment for use of the X system" in order to combat "vast armies of bots. During the livestream, Musk also divulged some new metrics from X, claiming it now has 550 million "monthly users," who generate 100 million to 200 million posts per day there. However, Musk also used it to dispute the perception that his social network is full of hate speech and antisemitism. Before meeting with Netanyahu, Musk also accused George Soros's foundation of wanting to "destroy" western civilization. On Twitter, Musk has repeatedly disparaged trans people, federal regulators, politicians, journalists, whistleblowers, critics of his companies, and short sellers.

The Bank of Israel in November 2021 stepped up its research and preparation for the possible issuance of a digital shekel to create a more efficient payments system after first considering issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in late 2017. "Whether or not we will issue a digital shekel is still an open question, as it is in most if not all other advanced economies," Bank of Israel Governor Amir Yaron said at a conference on digital currencies. Israel's central bank has been experimenting with a digital shekel with its Hong Kong counterpart and the Bank for International Settlements. Deputy Governor Andrew Abir said that for Israel, issuing a digital shekel would provide more competition in a financial system dominated by a few large banks and institutions. "I believe central banks should return to examine the possibility (of) remunerated CBDCs – that is, for the central bank to pay interest CBDC directly to the end users who hold it, and enjoy the security provided by the central bank.

Images: AP Composite: Mark KellyWashington has pledged to help Kyiv “for as long as it takes,” but support from European allies has been uneven. The states along the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s eastern flank have stepped up to oppose Russia in the largest land war in Europe since World War II. But Germany and France have been more hesitant and less impressive. This underscores a new strategic reality to which the U.S. ought to respond by making hard decisions about where it positions its troops and resources in Europe. If Washington is serious about deterrence by denial, it needs permanent installations in the key frontier state: Poland.

At least 88,200 people have $1 million or more in cryptocurrencies, a new wealth report said. That's out of 425 million total crypto users around the world, according to Henley & Partners. A fortunate few — 182 users — have cryptocurrencies worth more than $100 million, the report said. Crypto-millionaires are defined as people who have at least $1 million in cryptocurrency assets, per the firm's Crypto Wealth Report 2023. But the world's wealthy crypto users are starting to outnumber the number of high-net-worth individuals in entire countries, such as Russia, which has 65,000 millionaires, and Saudi Arabia, which has 52,000 millionaires, per Amoils' estimate.

Childhood inactivity may be increasing risk for heart disease later in life, according to new research. The longitudinal study included 766 children and looked at data from ages 11 to 24, the research showed. More sedentary time was associated with increased left ventricle mass in the girls who were followed in the study, according to the new research. “Since it is rare for children to have heart attacks, left ventricular hypertrophy or enlarged heart has been employed as early signs of heart damage,” he said. “An example of such light physical activity is taking a long walk.”Children ages 6 to 17 need about an hour of physical activity a day, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Minneapolis is the first major metropolitan area to have inflation rates below the Fed's 2% target. According to Bloomberg, Minneapolis hit the goal in May with an inflation rate of 1.8%. The rate is likely due to aggressive legislating to address soaring housing costs in the city. While Minneapolis residents spent 39.9% of their monthly income on housing costs, their co-parts in San Francisco paid 46.7% of their monthly income to housing; residents of Boston shelled out a whopping 60.7% of their income for housing costs, per Bloomberg. People ideally would spend around 30% of their income on housing, senior vice president of the National Low Income Housing Coalition Andrew Aurand, told CNBC.

Andrew Adams, who has led the "KleptoCapture" task force since its inception in March 2022, will be replaced by his deputies Michael Khoo and David Lim, a DOJ spokesperson said. "It was a privilege to cap this time in service of the Department's response to the war in Ukraine," Adams, a 10-year Justice Department veteran, wrote in a LinkedIn post. In launching the task force, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said it would enforce sanctions and export controls designed to freeze Russia out of global markets, and confiscate assets obtained through unlawful conduct. During Adams' tenure, the unit unveiled indictments against aluminum magnate Oleg Deripaska and TV tycoon Konstantin Malofeyev for alleged sanctions busting, and seized yachts belonging to sanctioned oligarchs Suleiman Kerimov and Viktor Vekselberg.
