The company is turning to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo for help. In a recent meeting with Raimondo, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger voiced frustration over the heavy reliance that U.S. companies have on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing , the world's largest contract chipmaker. Intel is currently building out plants in four U.S. states as it seeks to become more of a foundry business, manufacturing chips for other suppliers. It's an increasingly important initiative for Intel, which is getting trounced in the market for microprocessors. Concerns have been rising for years that China could invade Taiwan, creating a massive risk for the U.S. chip industry.

Some tech stocks are due for outperformance heading into year's end, according to UBS. Nvidia dragged other chip stocks down with it, with the VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) suffering its worst day since March 2020. Wall Street is also bullish on the chipmaker, with 41 of the 50 analysts covering the name issuing a strong buy or buy rating, according to LSEG. In the IT hardware and electronics manufacturing services sector, UBS named Dell Technologies , given a PC refresh cycle and developing strength in AI optimized servers. UBS has a buy rating on the stock, and its target implies more than 48% upside from Tuesday's close.

CNBC's Jim Cramer reviewed Tuesday's market action and asserted that tech stocks are easier to own for the long term while bank stocks suffer as the market broadens and experiences "economic choppiness." "You simply can't bank on the bank stocks right now, hence why the great broadening out is indeed fraught with risk," he said. "Meanwhile, tech may be torturous to own on a day-to-day basis, but long-term it's a cornucopia of rewards." He said many of these tech companies have lasting, secular themes, adding that any business related to data centers has "tremendous pin action." We don't have to play an interest rate guessing game with tech because the Fed is tangential."

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday recommended three chip stocks to buy at a discount: Micron , AMD and Arm . "I think the chip stocks have sold off way too hard," he said. The chip sector has retreated in recent weeks, with SMH , a prominent semiconductor exchange-traded fund, down more than 18% from its 52-week high in July, according to FactSet. Micron : Cramer called Micron "the market leader in memory chips," and said the hyperscalers building out data centers need memory. He added that he thinks the stock is currently cheap based on its earnings estimates for the next fiscal year.

That continues a trend from 2023, when generative AI companies raised $25.9 billion for the full year, up more than 200% from 2022. The average round for AI companies is 140% bigger this year compared with last, the data shows, while for non-AI companies the increase is only 10%. Most venture investors are bullish on the potential for generative AI to eventually create big returns at the application layer. John-David Lovelock, an analyst at Gartner and a 35-year veteran of the IT industry, sees a big opportunity for generative AI in the enterprise. Yet, in 2024, only 1% of the trillion dollars spent on software will be from businesses spending on generative AI products, he said.

She went to work as a process engineer at an Intel chip fab in Arizona. Over half of companies reported less than 10% representation of women in technical director roles and less than 5% in technical executive leadership roles. While the chip industry makes efforts to expand the recruiting pool in general so that hiring can be more inclusive, the changes can feel incremental. Related storiesIntel set goals to increase its female senior leadership representation to 25% and technical roles to 40% by 2030. Closing the gender gap in the chip industry will require more efforts from companies and top leadership to make these career paths more inclusive and stable.

Microsoft said June quarter capex rose more than 77% year-on-year to $19 billion. Koren and his firm do not own Nvidia stock. Analysts give Nvidia upside potential of 15.8% on average, according to FactSet data on Thursday. "Nvidia will still take the lion's share of, to our estimates, $700 billion of capex over the next two and a half years. So the outlook should still be strong for Nvidia," Wang told CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe" on Wednesday.

Shares of Super Micro Computer closed down 19% on Wednesday, after the company announced it would not file its annual report for the fiscal year with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on time. "SMCI is unable to file its Annual Report within the prescribed time period without unreasonable effort or expense," the company said in a release. Super Micro makes computers that companies use as servers for websites, data storage and other applications, including artificial intelligence algorithms. CNBC could not independently verify Hindenburg's claims. It is unclear if the delay in Super Micro's annual report is related to Hindenburg's findings.

Its next-generation Blackwell chip faces delays, raising questions about supply-chain impacts. As Nvidia prepares to report its second-quarter earnings on Wednesday, some of those questions are still relevant, while some have faded away. Efforts by other companies to build competitive AI chips haven't reached more than a simmer, and the rollout of Nvidia's next-generation Blackwell chip is said to be delayed. The analysts also wrote that revenue from existing products, specifically the H200 and H20 AI chips, could offset any delayed revenue from the Blackwell chip. Intel has sold its 1.18 million share stake in British chip firm Arm Holdings, according to a regulatory filing, as the California chip designer shores up its balance sheet amid intense competition. The sale, disclosed on Tuesday, likely raised Intel nearly $147 million, based on Arm's average stock price between April and June. Intel had cash and cash equivalents of $11.3 billion, and liabilities of about $32 billion at the end of June, according to its latest financials. Intel and Arm declined to comment on the sale when contacted by CNBC on Wednesday. Japan's SoftBank Group has a majority stake in Arm, and has been a beneficiary of the jump in the company's shares.

According to public announcements, the firm has made four acquisition deals so far in 2024, exactly even with Nvidia's 2020 deal total. Nvidia declined to discuss its acquisition strategy for this report, citing a quiet period before it announces earnings on August 28. In May, Nvidia agreed to acquire Deci AI, another Israeli startup that makes tools for developers to build AI models, for $300 million. In July Nvidia competitor AMD announced an agreement to acquire Silo AI, a Finnish AI startup, for $655 million. And this quiet trickle of deals in various forms is unlikely to stop since the market for AI talent is so tight.

The rollout of Nvidia's next-generation of AI chips, Blackwell, is going to be delayed according to media and industry analyst reports. Smaller cloud firms that have built their businesses on Nvidia chips could be affected by the delay too. Each new generation of AI chips promises step changes in computing capacity, speed and efficiency, allowing for faster computations and larger models. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, Nvidia's manufacturing partner, is using a relatively new process to manufacture the Blackwell chips. Some Blackwell chips have begun shipping to customers and production will still increase in the second half of the year.

Anything above 4% indicates the market is overbought, anything below a minus 5% means the market is oversold.) I am just prematurely predicting other investors fleeing the stock because they think Warren knows more than them. Many investors thought that Amazon was the best set up of the Mag Seven going into earnings. We are right smack in a most perilous moment because the Fed doesn't want to move too fast but the stock market does and the Fed does not care about that. I don't think a presidential election is all that conducive to the market.

Global semiconductor stocks fell Friday after a lackluster set of results from U.S. chip firm Intel sent its shares cratering, and a global market sell-off weighed on some of the biggest names in the tech sector. A number of major U.S. chip names also dropped on Friday in U.S. premarket trade, with Nvidia trading around 4% lower. The DOJ is looking at complaints that the chip giant allegedly abused its market dominance in artificial intelligence chips, The Information reported. Adding to the pressure on chip stocks is a global equity sell-off that began in the U.S. and has fed its way through to Asia and Europe. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF, which includes major names in the sector, closed roughly 6.5% lower in the U.S. on Thursday.

The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating complaints that Nvidia allegedly abused its market dominance in artificial intelligence chips, The Information reported. The DOJ has reached out to Nvidia's competitors such as AMD to gather information about the complaints, according to the report published on Thursday. Investigators are looking at whether Nvidia charges its customers higher prices for products if that customer wants to buy AI chips from rivals such as AMD, the report said. The DOJ is also looking at whether Nvidia has pressured customers to buy additional products such as cables that connect servers together, The Information reported. Nvidia and the DOJ were not immediately available for comment when contacted by CNBC.
