This includes four European carriers: Air Serbia, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, and Belarus' Belavia. Emirates' flight path from Dubai to Los Angeles on September 25 showed it flew over Russian airspace. Looking at the time of writing for mid-November, a ticket on Air India is nearly $2,000 cheaper than American. This was a particular concern earlier this year when Chinese airlines were using Russian airspace on routes to the US.

Mexico was downgraded by the U.S. regulator in May 2021 after the agency found the country did not meet safety standards. The downgrade was a major blow to Mexico carriers, as U.S. airlines were able to scoop up market share. Mexico overhauled its civil aviation law, but faced several hurdles and spent years in recovering the Category 1 rating. The return of Mexico to the highest aviation safety rating followed "more than two years of close work between the countries' civil aviation authorities," the FAA said in a statement.

Spirit Airlines on Thursday said it will partner with Liberty University, the 10th school that it's working with, to help beef up a pilot training pipeline as the industry continues to face a shortfall of aviators. The program will allow students pursuing aviation degrees at the university's School of Aeronautics in Lynchburg, Virginia, to apply to the company's pipeline program after completing their sophomore year. They must then complete airline pilot training programs, joining as first officers. JetBlue announced last month that its Gateway Rotor Transition Program will teach U.S.-military trained helicopter pilots to transition to airline pilots. Exceptions exist for some, such as U.S. military-trained pilots and those who attend two- and four-year programs that include flight training.
