CNN —A verdict is expected in the coming hours in the espionage case of the Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, with Russian prosecutors seeking an 18-year prison sentence in what his employer and the US government have dismissed as a sham trial. Asia-Pacific markets climbed on Friday as investors assessed key economic data out of Japan and awaited U.S. inflation reading due later in the day. The core inflation rate —which strips out prices of fresh food — rose to 2.1% from 1.9% in May. Tokyo inflation data is widely considered to be a leading indicator for nationwide trends. The country's industrial production grew 2.8% month on month in May, beating expectations of 2% from economists polled by Reuters. On a year-on-year basis, industrial production rose 0.3%.

He’s going to be a killer rebounder, monster screener and will consistently establish his position even against some of the stronger NBA players. I’m done doubting Edey, even as an NBA player. As an enormous ballhandler with serious touch and incredible vision as a passer, Topić is clearly an NBA player, even if it doesn’t all translate. Shannon is an elite athlete, but the NBA game requires more nuance, especially if he continues to be an inconsistent shooter. The housing market is unlikely to recover for several years and affordability won't get any better unless a recession hits, according to Bank of America economists. "The US housing market is stuck, and we are not convinced it will become unstuck anytime soon," Bank of America economist Michael Gapen and others said in a Monday note. In some respects, the housing market is a victim of its own success: Buyers swarmed in after Covid hit, taking advantage of mortgage rates around 3% and even less. Bank of America does expect some moderation in regard to prices, but again not for a few years. As things stand, the NAR's housing affordability index , after rising earlier this year, tumbled in May to its lowest level since November 2023.
