Oil prices were little changed on Tuesday, holding near the two-month highs reached in the previous session, on expectations for rising fuel demand from the summer travel season and possible U.S. interest rate cuts that could boost economic growth. Gasoline demand in the U.S., the world's biggest oil consumer, is expected to ramp up as the summer travel season picks up with the Independence Day holiday this week. Still, signs of less-than-expected demand growth have limited gains in oil prices. This was mainly because of lower imports into China, the world's biggest oil importer and the second-largest consumer.

Nvidia had some strong moves in the days after its 10-for-1 stock split traded in the market on June 10. Tuesday brought weaker-than-expected May retail sales , which the stock market took in stride, perhaps on the view that softness helps the view that the Federal Reserve will indeed cut interest rates later this year. Working oil pumpjacks dot the landscape on oilfields on the outskirts of Taft, Kern County, California on Sept. 21, 2023. Crude oil futures slid in early trade on Friday on the prospect of higher-for-longer interest rates in Asia and the United States, while falling U.S. oil inventories kept prices from moving lower. Japan's core consumer prices last month gained 2.5% from a year earlier, data showed on Friday, growing from the previous month and keeping the country's central bank on track to raise interest rates higher in the coming months. U.S. data released on Thursday showed that the number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits fell in the week ended June 14, with broader strength in the jobs market persisting.
