The strong ramp-up in sales for EVs, led by growth in China, means copper demand will continue to grow for the remainder of the decade, but innovation in EVs has emerged as a limiting factor, according to two recent forecasts. In a report this week, Goldman Sachs said EVs accounted for two-thirds of the global demand growth in copper last year. "Some of the projections out there have been very aggressive in terms of potential green energy demand (for copper)." Goldman Sachs called innovation in batteries and the potential shift to higher voltage systems like Tesla's "the main threat to copper's EV demand leverage." It expects copper demand for EVs to be 1 million metric tons this year and 2.8 million by 2030.

Pottery Barn Kids advertises a modern farmhouse crib, on sale for $600, and Home Depot sells a modern farmhouse outdoor playhouse for $299. “If a builder says, ‘I need three elevations,’ one will always be modern farmhouse,” she said. Ms. Sachs, 32, a stay-at-home mother, and Mr. Sachs, 36, who owns a commercial finance business, doubled down on modern farmhouse soon after they moved into the $1.351 million home. For Ms. Sachs, midcentury modern feels too cold, and the Italianate style she grew up with felt too ornate and uncomfortable. By contrast, modern farmhouse feels like home.

Exports: Chinese exports of rare earths have declined. Beijing then curbed global exports of rare earths, saying it was trying to curtail pollution and preserve resources. The chemical properties of rare earths make them difficult to separate from surrounding materials, and processing generates toxic waste. Western countries have ramped up support to boost domestic production of critical minerals including rare earths. Electric vehicle maker Tesla (TSLA.O) is moving away from rare earths in future models to mitigate environmental and supply risks, as the rare earth industry struggles to meet demand.

Or at least, I saw Sakamoto's digital avatar perform in a darkened room with a Magic Leap 2 headset clamped to my face. Some technical issues aside, the experience showed me the potential that AR has to transform the entertainment industry. As the lights dimmed, the audience became ghostly silhouettes, and Sakamoto's avatar appeared center stage. KAGAMI still showed a lot of promise for the future of AR entertainment. The tech company that builds the best AR hardware and software has a shot at controlling the next generation of entertainment.

Hong Kong CNN —A French minerals company is buying a British startup in a tie-up that could produce enough lithium carbonate to power 500,000 electric vehicles a year. That year is important as Britain is set to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles in 2030, forcing manufacturers to switch to electric vehicles. The combination of the new facility and an existing one in France “would make Imerys the largest integrated lithium producer in Europe, representing more than 20% of the announced European lithium output by 2030,” the company said. They will require that 45% of the value of electric vehicles traded between Britain and the European Union are sourced from one of the two regions in order to avoid costly tariffs. The deposit of lithium being developed there is set to be the largest in the country, according to Imerys.

“Kagami,” the new “mixed reality” concert of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s music by the production company Tin Drum is meant to be a profound experience, a groundbreaking achievement in virtual reality that expands the visual limits of recorded performance. In some ways that’s unavoidable; Sakamoto, one of Japan’s most internationally recognized artists, died in March, so any presentation of his music so soon is hard pressed to avoid a funereal pallor. Scenes from the 2017 documentary “Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda” play on mute on the far wall — Sakamoto collecting rainwater in a bucket; sampling the sound of an ice floe in the Arctic Circle — which, out of context, seem more oblique than they really are. The actual performance takes place beyond a curtain in an empty black box theater, which, materially speaking, stays that way. You sit in the round, staring at a glowing, virtual red cube in the center of the room, which suggests a séance administered by an AV club.

But little did she know, her wartime diary would lead to an unlikely friendship with another Hong Kong resident – Bellis. An avid history lover, Bellis collects old Hong Kong photos and shares his discoveries on his Gwulo website. But in her 90s, you know, she was still teaching us about old Hong Kong and she had (another) book published.

Today we've got stories on a startup helping you build your credit with rent payments, Wall Street reentering the home-buying frenzy, and how to cut out late-night snacking. But that hasn't stopped critics from painting BlackRock's filing as part of a wider power shift in crypto benefiting traditional financial firms. (It's worth noting that the announcement coincides with the launch of EDX Markets, a crypto exchange backed by Wall Street royalty like Citadel Securities, Fidelity, and Charles Schwab, per The Wall Street Journal.) Wall Street isn't in the business of supporting causes that could put it out of business. By partnering with traditional finance firms, crypto companies are letting the fox in the hen house.

Muted tk tkLike other band members have done consistently over the years, Waters denied that Pink Floyd intentionally structured its 1973 album to align with the 1939 film. Before my article, “The Dark Side of the Rainbow” was just a word-of-mouth thing on an early internet message board. I mostly listened to alternative rock in those days, but Pink Floyd’s Usenet group had a hold on me. I shared that page on the Usenet group and added it to a Pink Floyd “Web ring” — a system in which people with related pages linked to one another. The article page was logging hundreds, then thousands, and eventually tens of thousands of visitors.

The trader supplies tin concentrate to the Thai smelter Thaisarco, which does not price or pay for the material until after it has arrived and been authenticated. Fifty containers would hold 1,250 metric tonnes of tin concentrate and Brazilian concentrate would yield 875 tonnes of metal. In addition to selling tin to Thaisarco, Gerald typically sends tin concentrate to Malaysia Smelting Corp (MSCB.KL) to turn into metal in a process known as tolling. Tin concentrate from Brazil typically contains about 70% metal. With regional variations, tin concentrate also contains byproducts or impurities such as iron, antimony, bismuth, lead and silver.

HONG KONG, June 19 (Reuters) - A Hong Kong court on Monday charged four men with criminal damage to property at showrooms and a service centre of Chinese automaker BYD Co Ltd after they were vandalised last week in the financial hub. The men arrested were all of Chinese nationality and aged between 29-48 years, according to charge-sheets released by the court. None of them made any pleas in the court on Monday. All will be kept in the custody of the correctional services department until the next hearing on July 17. Police said last week that there was no evidence that the men had deliberately targeted the mainland auto brand and that an investigation was ongoing.

London Metal Exchange (LME) three-month tin has been treading water in a $23,700-26,800 range since the start of May. Although the demand outlook remains subdued, tin supply is facing two big threats, one from Myanmar and one from Indonesia, the world's largest exporter. Global tin supply, meanwhile, is now improving after an early-year drop in Indonesia shipments. Refined tin production fell year-on-year in May and Guangxi China Tin Group, the world's sixth-largest tin producer, has just announced a 40-50 day maintenance break from the end of this month, according to the ITA. Indonesia currently only has enough downstream capacity to absorb 5% of its domestic tin production, meaning that any restrictions will likely come in phases.

Now the brand has established dominance: For customers around the world, its blue tin, with its elegant cursive lettering and quaint Danish farmhouse, is inseparable from the experience of the cookies themselves. So, while that early disappointment should have made me wary, the Royal Dansk tin became a hypnotic object for me. Every few days, I opened the blue tin, as if there might be one last cookie to assuage my sadness. LONDON, June 1 (Reuters) - The London Metal Exchange (LME) is once again looking to shine more light on what lies in the shadows of its warehousing system. The exchange's daily stocks reports offer a rare hard data point in a murky statistical landscape for metal traders. LME stocks are flatlining but is this down to the market or changed market behaviour? Traders will game any system they come up against but the current LME stocks reporting regime makes it too easy. Restoring trust in exchange stocks reporting is a key step in winning back the broader confidence of the market.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has had a "glo-up" in recent years since stepping back from the company. He went from eating a tin of biscuits for breakfast every morning to putting in hours in the gym. With help from celebrity personal trainer Wes Okerson, Bezos is more ripped than ever. Jeff Bezos was a pretty scrawny guy when he founded Amazon in 1994. She told The Wall Street Journal in January that Bezos "stole" her personal trainer, Wes Okerson, who's also trained Tom Cruise and Gerard Butler.
This week, two candidates officially joined the Republican presidential field: Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina and Gov. All told, the Republican presidential field might end up almost as large and divided as the one in 2016. Which is to say that the 2024 Republican primary is, at this stage, shaping up to be a retread of the one that catapulted Trump to the commanding heights of the American political system. Once again, it is clear that many Republican elites would prefer to have someone other than Trump at the top of the ticket. As of Friday, he is far behind Trump in nearly every major poll of the national Republican primary electorate.
