U.S. FAA updates airworthiness directive on Boeing 777s

A Boeing logo is seen at the 54th International Paris Airshow at Le Bourget Airport near Paris, France, June 18, 2023. The Federal Aviation Administration's superseding airworthiness directive "was prompted by a report of a crack found in a front spar lower chord," it said in the Federal Register notice. Errors in the earlier directive also "introduced a new unsafe condition related to the application of certain fastener cap seals," it said. Although Boeing intends to revise the bulletin, the FAA issued the new directive as "this work will take longer to accomplish than the risk to public safety allows," the agency said. A Boeing spokesperson said it fully supported the FAA's rule, “which is consistent with guidance we have shared with operators previously.”The FAA did not immediately provide comment.

"For (737 MAX) deliveries, we will be ready to deliver for our customers when that time comes," Boeing said in a statement. China was the first country to ground Boeing's 737 MAX following fatal accidents, though about 90% of the jets resumed commercial operation in the country in June. REUTERS/Benoit Tessier/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsAug 23 (Reuters) - Boeing (BA.N) has recently identified a new 737 MAX supplier quality problem involving improperly drilled holes on the aft pressure bulkhead, the company said on Wednesday. Boeing said the new problem could delay near-term deliveries and is evaluating whether it could cause it to miss its annual delivery target of at least 400 737s this year. Trade publication The Air Current, which first reported on the production flaw, said Spirit AeroSystems (SPR.N) was responsible for the misdrilled holes. The defect is limited to Boeing's bestselling MAX 8 model, and it is unclear how many jets will need to be fixed or how long rework will ultimately take, Boeing said.

Nintendo said it sold 18.51 million units of "Tears of the Kingdom" in the first quarter. The results underscore Nintendo's success in extending the life of the aging Switch system, which has sold almost 130 million units, and using its roster of popular characters to boost revenue beyond the core gaming business. The Kyoto-based gaming firm maintained its full-year forecast for the console of 15 million units, which would be a 16.5% decline on a year earlier. First-quarter operating profit leapt 82% on a year earlier to 185.4 billion yen with sales of first-party software at record highs.

But a comment on an online science forum called PubPeer convinced me something might be at the bottom of this one. That anonymous 2015 observation helped spark a chain of events that led Stanford’s president, Marc Tessier-Lavigne, to announce his resignation this month. Stanford opened the investigation in response to reporting I published last autumn in The Stanford Daily, taking a closer look at scientific papers he published from 1999 to 2012. Olive oil may lower risk of death from dementia
  + stars: | 2023-07-27 | by ( Kristen Rogers | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +5 min
Whether olive oil is linked with risk of dementia-related death had never been studied until now, according to the authors. Over a follow-up period of 28 years, regardless of diet quality, eating more than half a tablespoon of olive oil per day was associated with a 28% lower risk of dying from dementia, compared with participants who never or rarely consumed olive oil. Additionally, replacing a daily teaspoon of mayonnaise or margarine with the same amount of olive oil was correlated with an 8% to 14% lower risk of dementia-related death, the authors found. “It is also possible that olive oil has an indirect effect on brain health by benefiting cardiovascular health,” she added. Besides cooking with olive oil, you can also use it to make salad dressings or vinaigrettes, mayonnaise, pesto or bread dip.
