In today's big story, we're looking at the drama between Tesla shareholders over Elon Musk's bumper pay package that gets decided on today . The company had to quell those concerns with a blog post denying this. But some Adobe employees are still not happy with the response, and they are calling for improved communication with customers. According to screenshots of an internal Slack channel, obtained by Business Insider, Adobe employees complained about the company's poor response to the controversy and demanded a better long-term communication plan. The plan focuses on Microsoft 365, a popular suite of productivity software used by thousands of businesses. This is a big risk for the company because Microsoft 365 has been an important source of revenue and growth, even without fancy new AI capabilities. However, current and former OpenAI employees have been increasingly concerned about access to liquidity, according to interviews and documents shared internally. "We're incredibly sorry that we're only changing this language now," an OpenAI spokesperson told CNBC after the company changed course. In at least two tender offers, the sales limit for former employees was $2 million, compared to $10 million for current employees. In addition to current and former employees, OpenAI has a third tier for share sales that consists of ex-employees who now work at competitors. OpenAI said it's never canceled a current or former employee's vested equity or required a repurchase at $0.

Analyst Stephen Grambling reiterated his overweight rating on shares, which he thinks should move higher based on potential earnings upside. Analyst Christopher Horvers upgraded the big-box retailer to overweight and hiked his price target by $15 to $81, which suggests 25.4% potential upside. Analyst Tom O'Malley's price target is now $145 per share, which implies 19.9% potential upside from Friday's close. Ramsey also attributed his new price target to the firm's latest data center modeling which estimates a software-based revenue breakout for Nvidia. He raised his price target to $150, which implies 40.8% upside from Friday's close.

The S & P 500 made a new record high, its 25 th of the year. And on the surface, there is a stolid calm that suggests a system in comfortable equilibrium, the market achieving a kind of homeostasis. Four of the past five days last week, the S & P 500 moved less than 0.2%. The S & P 500 is up almost 2% since its closing peak at the end of the first quarter, perhaps the moment of maximum belief in a seamless soft economic landing. Three stocks together now account for fully 20% of the S & P 500 market value, mocking the notion of diversification and dashing most active investors' hopes of beating the bogey.

Narendra Modi’s India

Despite having led India for a decade, Modi has in some ways kept his country guessing about his vision. On major issues — India’s relationships, its economy, its society and its government — it’s still unclear what sort of country Modi wants India to be. India has spent recent years deepening its relationship with the United States. It has gotten closer to American allies, including Japan and Australia, and ordered high-end American weapons systems — the kind that create dependence down the road. After Russia invaded Ukraine, the United States tried in vain to persuade India to take a stand against the war.

Bosses want to hire people with AI aptitude, but many employees aren't focused on the new technology. Yet over two-thirds of desk workers say they've never used AI, according to a March 2024 Slack Workforce Lab survey of more than 10,000 professionals. People who don't learn AI risk losing career opportunities to those who do, says Lydia Logan, IBM's vice president of global education and workforce development. Generative AI is expected to affect more than 300 million jobs worldwide, per Goldman Sachs's estimates. The one AI skill that's in "crazy demand," according to Logan, and that she encourages everyone to learn, is prompt engineering.

I've stopped making friends at work

Because the city has a large transient population, I've seen many friends and coworkers come and go — but even this has had benefits. I've made trips to visit my work friends in their new homes around the world. Work friendships started back in New York and are still going strongThese types of strong connections with colleagues didn't just start in Singapore. More than half of those surveyed said they'd met a close friend through their work or a spouse's work. I haven't been introduced to any of my coworkers' friends or partners, nor has my husband met any of them.

Job openings fell more than forecast in April, signaling a potential weakening in the labor market that could provide the Federal Reserve with more impetus to start lowering interest rates. The Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey released Tuesday showed that the level of employment vacancies slipped to 8.06 million for the month, down by nearly 300,000 from March and close to 19% lower than a year ago. The ratio of job openings to available workers edged down from 1.2 to 1, after being around 2 to 1 when openings peaked above 12 million in March 2022. Fed officials watch the JOLTS report closely for signs of labor market slack as they look for direction on monetary policy. While job openings slid, hires moved slightly higher as did separations and quits, a sign of worker confidence in the ability to move to other positions.

Gold prices were little changed on Monday as traders awaited more U.S. economic data this week, after recent data showed that inflation stabilized and lifted hopes for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates later this year. "Gold is getting a little bit of support after the marginally softer than expected Personal Consumption Expenditures numbers supported the notion that the Fed can cut rates this year," Rodda said. Data on Friday showed that the U.S. inflation had stabilized in April, raising bets for a rate cut in September. Spot gold may break support at $2,319 per ounce, and fall towards $2,302, according to Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao.

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the former government scientist both celebrated and despised for his work on Covid, is set to return to Capitol Hill on Monday for a reunion with some of his fiercest antagonists: members of a Republican-led House panel who accuse him of helping to set off the worst pandemic in a century. Republicans on the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic have spent 15 months rooting through emails, Slack messages and research proposals for evidence against Dr. Fauci. In half a million pages of documents and more than 100 hours of closed-door testimony, the panel has so far found nothing linking the 83-year-old immunologist to the beginnings of the Covid outbreak in China. But the panel has turned up emails suggesting that Dr. Fauci’s former aides were trying to evade public records laws at the medical research agency he ran for 38 years until his retirement in December 2022. Some of those emails paint Dr. Fauci as being preoccupied with his public image; one April 2021 message from an aide said that while Dr. Fauci “prides himself on being like teflon,” he appeared to be “getting worried about the brown stuff hitting the fan” over questions about research funded by his agency, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

How much do we pay for an enterprise software business that may have hit the wall, suddenly slowing down to sales growth in the high single digits from growth in the double digits? But Salesforce is the most glaring of the enterprise software behemoths, which include ServiceNow , Adobe , Workday , SAP , Intuit , and fallen star MongoDB . Or to put it another way, Salesforce needs its clients to hire more people to increase sales growth. SaaS is another form of enterprise software, is another form of applications software, is another form of kryptonite. Of course, there will be enterprise software companies that defy the slowdown.

Inflation remained essentially flat in April while showing signs of progress, the Commerce Department reported Friday, in a closely watched measure that will guide the Federal Reserve in any decision to loosen interest rates in the coming months. The Personal Consumption Expenditures price index rose 2.7 percent from a year earlier, the same level as in March. After stripping out volatile food and fuel prices for a clearer reading of price trends — called the core index — inflation remained steady at 2.8 percent on an annual basis. On a monthly basis, inflation also remained flat, with prices rising 0.3 percent in April. That “core” index showed a slight moderation, rising 0.2 percent from the previous month, compared with 0.3 percent in March.

“It’s putting patients’ lives in danger,” said a nurse who works at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital, a 290-bed facility about 25 miles north of downtown Detroit. The health care sector reported 249 ransomware attacks to the FBI last year, more than any other sector, with some cases affecting patient records. And, perhaps more than any other sector, health care firms hold an enormous volume of sensitive data that is ripe for targeting and extortion schemes. The hack cut off health care providers from billions of dollars of revenue and snarled service at pharmacies across the US. The company's balance of margin expansion with the potential for faster top-line growth should lead to strong earnings growth. Non-GAAP operating margin benefited from the lower cost of revenues, sales and marketing, and general and administrative expenses. Several park visitors were swept off the bridge to their deaths in recent years during periods of high water. The crew members were among thousands of mostly youthful workers who labor to maintain the trails that thread through America’s public lands. The National Park Service recorded 325.5 million visits to its parks last year, up 4 percent over the previous year and the second busiest year on record. But the 236,000 miles of trails that wend their way through the parks, forests and deserts are often neglected and are certainly undervalued. That poses dangers to hikers and impedes access to the wonders that can be found on public lands.

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have given each other a few tips over the course of their friendship, which has lasted for more than three decades and counting. One of those lessons is something Gates wishes he'd learned a lot sooner, to clear up his busy schedule — and possibly even made him happier and more productive. "In hindsight, it's a lesson I could have learned a lot sooner had I taken more peeks at Warren Buffett's intentionally light calendar." Gates finally learned to cut his employees, and himself, some slack after catching a peek of the Berkshire Hathaway CEO's personal daybook. "[I] remember Warren showing me his calendar ... he [still] has days that there's nothing on it," Gates said, adding that Buffett's sparser schedule taught him an important lesson.
