Under its policies, OpenAI said in a blog post, users may not create chatbots posing as political candidates or government agencies and officials, such as the secretaries of state who administer US elections. But even social media firms that are much bigger than OpenAI, and that dedicate massive teams to election integrity and content moderation, have often shown that they struggle to enforce their own rules. OpenAI is likely to be no different — and a lack of federal regulation is forcing the public to simply take the companies at their word. Meta said last year it would bar political campaigns from using generative AI tools in their advertising and require politicians to disclose the use of any AI in their ads. In Congress, some lawmakers have proposed a national ban on the deceptive use of AI in all political campaigns, but that legislation has not advanced.

Apple had said that a proposed redesign would allow it to circumvent findings that the watches infringe Masimo's blood-oxygen reading pulse oximetry patents. According to Masimo's filing on Monday with the Federal Circuit, Apple told the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency that its redesigned watches "definitively do not contain pulse oximetry functionality." Irvine, California-based Masimo has accused Apple of hiring away its employees and stealing its pulse oximetry technology to use in Apple Watches after discussing a potential collaboration. Apple has included a pulse oximeter feature in smartwatches since its Series 6 Apple Watch in 2020. Masimo asked the ITC in 2021 to bar Apple's imports and sales of Apple Watches that allegedly infringed its patents.

At least, that's what Arctic Ice, a startup based in Greenland, is hoping will catch on as it begins selling glacier ice to upscale cocktail bars in Dubai. "Our pure iceberg ice has little to no taste, ensuring it doesn't alter the flavor of beverages as it melts, unlike ice made from tap or mineral water," reads the Arctic Ice website. Representatives for Arctic Ice and Natural Ice did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Neighborhoods in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro state remained flooded Monday more than a day after torrential rains that killed at least 11 people. Some people drowned and were killed in landslides, while at least three died after being electrocuted. Authorities intervened in over 200 incidents due to the flooding across the state, according to a statement from Rio’s civil defense. Brazil’s National Institute of Meteorology had warned Thursday of the potential for heavy rain in Rio, Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais due to a combination of heat, humidity and areas of low pressure in the atmosphere. In February 2023, heavy rain caused flooding and landslides that killed at least 48 people in Sao Paulo state.
