A dense “super fog” hovered over New Orleans on Monday, shrouding the area in an impenetrable mist that led to traffic pileups involving dozens of vehicles and leaving at least seven people dead, the authorities said. At least 158 vehicles were involved in a series of crashes, which began just before 9 a.m. on Interstate 55 northwest of New Orleans, the Louisiana State Police said, noting that fog had been a “contributing factor.” An additional 25 people were injured, some of them critically, the police said. “I start with the fabric, that’s most important,” said Ms. Schoneveld, 40, who usually begins working on her collection around six months before the presentation. “It’s the visual and textural foundation.”This year, Ms. Schoneveld presented her spring 2024 line at New York Bridal Fashion Week, which took place Oct. 10-12. She debuted her designs at the Horizon Bridal Showcase, a white-box space near Hudson Yards in Manhattan that some bridal designers have used to showcase their newest collections. To get an insider’s feel for what goes into presenting a collection, I followed Ms. Schoneveld’s journey to creating her line, from conception to completion — and every step in between. Fain confirmed the Detroit Three had converged on a 23% wage hike offer and made progress on other issues. But he told UAW members "there is more to be won". While warning of possible expanded strikes, Fain also told UAW members the talks were closing in on an end. Walkouts began at the three automakers on Sept. 15 and now more than 34,000 union members are waging the UAW's first simultaneous strikes against the Detroit Three. Fain acknowledged some union members want to vote on the offers the union bargainers have in hand. He urged UAW members not to give in to what he called "fear, uncertainty, doubt and division" sowed by the companies. More than 34,000 union members working at the three automakers are on strike since the walkouts began on Sept. 15. The demand included a 20% immediate increase, elimination of different pay scales among UAW workers and restoration of defined benefit pension plans. The GM offer "suggests we may be in the endgame," said University of California Berkeley labor professor Harley Shaiken.
