But retirees and full-time caregivers have been unable to take advantage of a strong job market. Now, consumers are largely left with the same buying power they had four years ago rather than having seen real income gains over that time that would have helped bolster their financial picture. The outlook for the job market also varies by race with the unemployment rate at 5.6% for Black workers and 5% for Hispanic workers. Food prices have risen around 25% over the past four years while Biden was in office. The rise in food prices has disproportionately impacted lower-income households, which spend around a third of their discretionary income on food, according to a 2022 Agriculture Department survey.

The US chipmaker’s market capitalization hit $3.34 trillion on June 18 to surpass Microsoft’s but has since shed $430 billion. Now worth $2.91 trillion, Nvidia has fallen into third place globally, behind Microsoft (MSFT) and Apple (AAPL), which have a market cap of $3.33 trillion and $3.19 trillion respectively. The company’s chips power AI systems, including generative AI, the technology behind OpenAI’s ChatGPT that can create text, images and other media. Now investors have started to take profits and they seem to prefer selling stocks with the best year-to-date performance.”Market contagion? If history is a guide, that suggests the S&P 500 could surge 4% next month to record highs, according to Goldman Sachs. Goldman SachsWhat's more, recent market trends show that July as a whole has been incredibly bullish for the stock market. If similar seasonal trends play out this year, a near-4% gain would catapult the S&P 500 to a new record at 5,665 based on current levels. As to what could drive more bullish returns over the coming weeks, Rubner highlighted that a record cash pile of more than $7 trillion sitting in money market funds could soon flood the market.

Fundstrat's Tom Lee, who's been correctly nailing the stock market for the past few years, hinted that he was about to hike his year-end S & P 500 target even with the benchmark at record highs. Lee's 5,800 call would represent another 6% gain for the S & P 500 from current levels. Lee believes a strong force that could help lift the market is the $6 trillion in cash that's in money market funds. Lee would join a host of others on Wall Street who have recently raised their S & P 500 targets. On June 14, Goldman Sachs increased its price target on the S & P to 5,600.

Bitcoin's 16% sell-off this month is testing a key support level at around $60,000. This support level is bolstered by Bitcoin's 200-day moving average of just under $58,000. A break below $60,000 could lead to a 15% decline to the next support level at $51,500. AdvertisementThe steady decline in bitcoin this month has the cryptocurrency testing a key support level that could ultimately give way to a more painful sell-off. But if it doesn't, and bitcoin decisively breaks below $60,000, that suggests the token could continue its descent to its next support level at around $51,500.

A high concentration of warning signals suggest a major market correction ahead, John Hussman said. AdvertisementA growing tally of ringing market alarms suggest the S&P 500 has at last reached its speculative peak, permabear John Hussman wrote on Monday. He predicted in 2000 that the S&P 500 would likely see negative total returns over the following decade, which it did. He predicted in April 2007 that the S&P 500 could lose 40%, then it lost 55% in the subsequent collapse from 2007 to 2009. The S&P 500, by comparison, is up significantly over the period.

Starting Monday, the Minneapolis-based discounter said companies that work with Shopify can apply to join Target Plus, its third-party marketplace. Target's marketplace creates a "halo" and is "an accelerant to the total business," she said. Target Plus has only a tiny fraction of the revenue and sellers of other third-party marketplaces. Sylvester would not say how much of that came from ads bought by Target Plus sellers. Target does not offer fulfillment services, instead relying on Target Plus sellers to store, pack and ship their own goods.

Equity markets have been rallying in the past week, with the S & P 500 benchmark briefly hitting a high of 5,500 last week before losing traction. That movement has raised concerns on whether valuations are stretched, but Morgan Stanley's Andrew Slimmon has maintained his bullish stance on the stock market. "But what's important to remember is that the S & P 500 has rallied 7 of the last 8 months and is up 40% from the October lows. One merit of large-cap stocks is that they "have better earnings revisions than the small-caps," since they buy back their stocks more aggressively, he explained. Three stocks Slimmon likes right now include investment bank JPMorgan Chase , insurance company Progressive Corp and Irish building materials company CRH .

Scott Wren, a senior global market strategist at Wells Fargo Investment Institute, recently noted that market breadth is abnormally narrow. He found that the five best performers in the S&P 500 accounted for nearly three-fifths of its exceptional 10.6% year-to-date gain through May 31. That fate will soon apply to the S&P 500, Wren warned. Such a sell-off would take the S&P 500 below 5,000 for the first time since April. "And it's tough to be patient when the S&P 500 set a bunch of all-time high records."
