PARIS — Everywhere you looked at the 2024 Paris Games, Americans dominated. On the final day of the Games, China is leading Team USA in the medal table, with 39 golds to America’s 38. Its two golds here included the 4x100-meter medley, the first time in Olympic history that anyone had beaten the U.S. Though Russia, a longtime dominant force in the sport, was excluded from these Games, China still achieved a score that far outstripped any competitors. I instantly regretted my decision because I knew my son needed me. The chances of my husband getting a job that would pay enough to cover the cost of childcare were very low. My children needed their mother, and I needed my children. When I was focused on work and they needed my attention, I would redirect them to ask their dad instead. I realize now that all those years, I was bringing my stress and fear from work into my family life.

The global sports doping watchdog World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accepted the assessment without an appeal. Concern only deepened Tuesday, after WADA acknowledged a separate 2022 case in which two Chinese swimmers tested positive for “trace amounts of a prohibited substance metandienone,” a banned anabolic steroid. “I feel so wronged,” said Zhang, denying that Chinese swimmers engaged in doping. The 2022 case, reported by the Times earlier this week, involves a swimmer on the Chinese roster in Paris, according to the paper. As oil rebounds following oversold conditions, it provides an opportunity for buyers to step in, especially with the potential for geopolitical tensions to rise. And one energy stock that looks set up to potentially break out is Phillips 66 (PSX) after largely trading in a range since February. However, it is now just starting to break out from that trading range and starts to target the $170 highs as upside targets. With a higher debt to equity ratio, PSX has a higher implied leverage than its peers, which provides a higher upside potential if oil prices recover from its recent pullback. BEFORE MAKING ANY FINANCIAL DECISIONS, YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER SEEKING ADVICE FROM YOUR OWN FINANCIAL OR INVESTMENT ADVISOR.

Lily Zhang and three teammates from the United States table tennis team were hanging out on a large boat last Friday, making small talk with the N.B.A. star Stephen Curry — as one does at an Olympic opening ceremony — when he asked what sport they played. Moments later, the four table tennis players found themselves engaged in a brief but spirited debate with Curry and his teammate Anthony Edwards about whether Edwards, one of basketball’s brightest young talents, could notch a point against them on the table. On one hand, the table tennis players said, it was one of those extraordinary, and extraordinarily funny, interactions that can happen only at the Olympics. On the other hand, they said, they have interactions like this all the time.

An Olympic swimming champion who was one of 23 Chinese athletes who tested positive for a banned substance before the last Summer Olympics said on Saturday that they had been wrongly accused of doping and insisted that China would never allow any athlete to use performance-enhancing drugs. The remarks by the swimmer, Zhang Yufei, were the first public comments by a member of the Chinese swimming team at the center of the doping scandal, which has brought anger, accusations and resentment to the Paris Olympics, the sport’s grandest stage. “I don’t think any athlete, Chinese or non-Chinese, would want to destroy the work they built up every day over the years on doping,” Zhang said at the Olympic pool after a fast swim in a morning race on the opening day of the swimming competition. The Chinese government, she said, “also does not allow us to dope on purpose.”
