The second branch of the Taurid meteor showers, the Northern Taurid event, is about to take center stage. The Northern Taurids have been active since mid-October, but the shower will peak Monday night into Tuesday — with optimal visibility likely occurring after midnight — offering patient sky-gazers the best opportunity to view meteor activity, according to NASA. However, the moon will be about 79% full when the Northern Taurids peak this week, according to the American Meteor Society, which could make spotting meteors earlier in the evening more challenging. The Northern Taurids are visible until December 2, according to the American Meteor Society, so there is potential to spot more fireballs over the next few weeks. Here are peak dates for upcoming meteor showers, according to the American Meteor Society:Leonids: November 16-17Geminids: December 12-13Ursids: December 21-22Two full moons also remain — the beaver moon, which is a supermoon, on November 15 and the cold moon on December 15, according to the Farmers’ Almanac.

Recession risk has jumped to 75% due to the potential for a trade ware under Trump, BCA Research said. Trump's proposed tariffs could lower household income and depress corporate investments. In a Friday note, Berezin increased the probability of an economic recession to 75% from 65%, citing the risk of a new trade war under Trump. On the campaign trail, Trump proposed implementing universal tariffs of 10%-20% on goods imported into the country and a 60% tariff on goods from China. Berezin cited a study from the Budget Lab at Yale that estimates Trump's proposed tariffs could reduce real disposable income for the median US household by $1,900-$7,600.

Europe could fall into recession in 2025 under Trump's economic proposals, a major EU bank said. AdvertisementThe eurozone economy faces the possibility of a looming recession as tariffs promised by President-elect Trump look set to dampen growth, according to analysts at a Dutch bank. Trump pledged on the campaign trail to impose a fresh era of trade tariffs, building on policies he enacted during his first term as president. European Union economic growth is already struggling, and has lagged behind the US in recent years. He said Europe's economic challenges, including high energy costs, sluggish economic growth, and geopolitical instability, would only get worse in the event of a tariff battle with the US.

Analysts said tariffs on cars imported from Mexico would have dire consequences for US automakers. Tesla announced in March 2023 that it was planning to build its seventh gigafactory near the industrial hub of Monterrey, Mexico. Trump vowed to clamp down on automakers building cars in Mexico on the campaign trail, and the prospect of new tariffs could force US automakers such as Tesla to make some hard choices about operational or planned factories in Mexico. Analysts told BI that the tariffs floated by Trump would deter automakers such as Tesla from investing in Mexico. Other automakers have expanded their presence in Mexico, despite the uncertainty of the election and the prospect of tariffs under a second Trump term.

On the campaign trail, he called for policies that could leave 93 million Americans off the hook for at least part of their income taxes. The former President has also proposed for tariffs of 10% to 20% on imports arriving in the U.S with higher rates for Chinese goods. President-elect Donald Trump is unlikely to continue Biden's student-debt relief efforts. Two of Biden's debt relief plans remain blocked in court, keeping borrowers in limbo. "He's throwing money out the window," Trump previously said of Biden's debt relief efforts, also calling broad relief "vile" and illegal. If they secure the majority in both the House and Senate, legislation to rescind Biden's debt relief efforts has a chance of being signed into law. For now, millions of borrowers remain on forbearance as they wait for the courts to decide what will come of Biden's broader debt relief efforts, leaving their timeline for repayment in limbo.

When President-elect Donald Trump returns to the White House in 2025, he will assume a key position within the U.S. economy. On the campaign trail, the former President promised to eliminate regulations that hold back key U.S. industries and extend tax cuts that expire after 2025. The President-elect has also promised to embark on a large deportation operation when he enters office. Leah Millis | ReutersNow that Donald Trump has been elected president, many individual investors are wondering what that means for their money. Yet, when it comes to long-term performance of the markets and policies that Trump proposed on the campaign trail, financial advisors say it's best to take a wait-and-see approach before making any big money decisions. Lee Baker, a CFP and owner of Claris Financial Advisors in Atlanta, said he's also told clients not to make wholesale financial changes now. Many investors expect Trump to lead with faster economic growth and more market-friendly policies, said Francis during a Friday webcast on what Trump's presidency could mean for investors' money. While those policies would put more money in Americans' pockets, Francis noted, other experts say it's too soon to count on those changes.

CNN —Richard Allen has been found guilty of two counts of murder and two counts of felony murder in the highly publicized Delphi murder trial, according to CNN affiliate WTHR. Delphi law enforcement have long held they believe the “Bridge Guy” shown in the video is the main suspect in the case. Prosecutors drew attention to the .40-caliber unspent round found by the girls’ bodies, which a prosecution expert testified matched Allen’s pistol. The prosecution has also tried to match Allen with the video and audio recording of the “Bridge Guy” captured on Libby’s cellphone. “Richard Allen is ‘Bridge Guy,’” McLeland told jurors.

New York CNN —Sexist and abusive attacks on women, like “your body, my choice” and “get back to the kitchen,” have surged across social media since Donald Trump’s reelection, according to an analysis from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue. An X post from White nationalist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes last Tuesday night saying, “Your body, my choice. And a number of women on TikTok posted videos saying their comments had been filled with users posting the phrase. “Your body, my choice” is an apparent subversion the phrase “my body, my choice,” which was used by women as a rallying cry in support of reproductive rights. In some cases, X and TikTok users responded to posts saying “your body, my choice” with vague threats of retaliatory violence.

Jeff Kowalsky | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesDETROIT — General Motors is proving it's a standout among automakers this year as it continues to consistently outperform Wall Street's earnings expectations and its competitors. For the most part, GM stock has traded in lockstep with Ford due to their histories and the cyclical nature of the automotive industry. Ford stock is off 10% as of Friday's close. Others, including Ferrari , which has been among Wall Street's top auto performers, are also trailing GM. Shares of GM under Barra, who started leading the automaker in January 2014, have been lackluster for investors for most of her tenure.

"Look at which tax cuts were getting the most focus on the campaign trail. A traditional GOP tax policy might be thought of as favoring business tax cuts. CNN —President-elect Donald Trump is likely to pick Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as his secretary of state, two people familiar with his thinking told CNN, as he rounds out his national security team in a second term. Given his deep foreign policy experience and that he sits on both the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Foreign Relations Committee, the State Department seemed like a good fit for Rubio. The Florida senator, a China hawk and finalist for Trump’s VP, was a constant on the campaign trail during Trump’s third presidential run. In 2016, Rubio and Trump’s relationship seemed it may be beyond repair when in the closing days of his campaign, Rubio publicly attacked Trump, saying he wasn’t going to “make America great. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla. — one of three lawmakers vying to succeed Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-KY, as Senate majority leader — suggested Sunday that Trump would probably need Congress' help. "The tariffs, that most likely is going to require 60 [votes in the Senate] unless there's some way we can get that done through reciliation with 51 [votes]," Scott said on Fox News "Sunday Morning Futures." It avoids a filibuster, which requires 60 votes to overcome. Trump has vowed across-the-board tariffs of 10% to 20% on all imports arriving into the United States and at least a 60% tariff on Chinese imports. Economic experts dispute whether Trump's tariff plan, especially the tax on global imports, can be done via executive action.

The president-elect promised on the campaign trail to cut taxes on Social Security benefits in his second term. For some baby boomers, lower Social Security taxes could mean larger monthly checks in the short-term. But experts predict that the Social Security tax cuts, along with other campaign promises made by Trump, could quickly drain the national Social Security fund. More than 72 million Americans receive Social Security and the estimated average monthly check is $1,907 a month, per the Social Security Administration. Social Security tax cuts would hurt low-income retirees, younger generationsUS Social Security will be depleted in the next decade without Congressional action.

AdvertisementA key sticking point for the 73,479,065 Americans (and counting) who voted for President-elect Donald Trump was inflation. Inflationary promisesThe main Trump proposals viewed as inflationary are: sweeping tariffs on imports, mass deportation of immigrants, and lower taxes. Related storiesTypically, US companies simply pass the tariff costs to consumers via higher prices, and company executives are already signaling this to investors. Possible inflation falloutIf Trump delivers on all of these proposals, then a rebound in inflation is all but guaranteed, economists have said. Sanders added it is “problematic” if schedule F is being used to reinforce and maintain political loyalty. The spoils system was replaced by the current merit-based system where career employees serve multiple administrations, carrying out their jobs independent of politics. The Biden administration erected temporary roadblocks at the federal Office of Personnel Management – rules aimed at protecting federal workers from retaliatory mass firings. The District of Columbia itself has the largest individual chunk of federal workers in any state or territory, with more than 162,000. But it could also be devastating to employment in states that went to Trump, where roughly 967,000 federal workers live.

As president, Trump repeatedly came under fire from ethics groups for potential conflicts of interest relating to his businesses and brands. A source familiar with the process acknowledged that details are still being worked out with the Biden administration regarding the ethics agreement, which is required by law under the Presidential Transition Act and which applies to all members of the transition team. Updates to that bill requiring the ethics pledge were introduced by Trump ally Sen. Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican, and signed into law by Trump himself in March 2020. The Trump team ignored a pair of key preelection deadlines to unlock transition activities with the Biden administration’s General Services Administration and the White House. The ethics agreement was also due by October 1.
