Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Adam Caller, the CEO and founder of Tutors International. A child from a socioeconomically disadvantaged background who's struggling and a child from enormous wealth who's struggling are still both children who are struggling. The teachers who stay with us long term are the ones who don't get changed by the wealth around them. But if they talk about how they can help the children, I know they speak the right language.

I'm a high school English teacher, and I recently had a parent say to me, "ChatGPT can produce a decent essay on just about any topic in 3.4 seconds. Like most good questions posed to humans, my response requires more than 3.4 seconds to create and read, but it is one I'd like every parent of a high school student to consider as we head back into another academic year. An entire essay produced in 3.4 seconds? That's almost faster than I can type "3.4 seconds," and I am not above marveling at the technology that makes this possible. Studies suggest that writing by hand prompts distinct and more complex brain connections that are fundamental in encoding new information.

Our oldest is taking advantage of early college programsRecently, I attended an orientation with my 16-year-old for her early college program. I wasn't familiar with early college programs, but they've become popular in our local area, both for the support they can offer teens transitioning to college and the cost savings they can offer. Students in the program take an additional year of high school that's a full college course load and then graduate from high school with up to 60 college credits, sometimes enough for a full associate degree. Along with the early college program, I took the small amount of savings we did have for her and opened a 529 education account. The catch is that all the money has to be used for educational purposes, but things such as trade school and school expenses qualify.

Every jobs number moves markets now In the meantime, every data point on jobs is a potentially market moving event. Nvidia's multiple is falling, not its earnings Meanwhile, there was much gnashing and wailing around Nvidia 's big 9% drop yesterday. Nvidia lost $279 billion in market value Tuesday. The forward multiple for Nvidia's next fiscal year (February 2025-February 2026) is 28.8, well below the 36 multiple in June. While Nvidia is certainly not a value stock, it is much more reasonably priced than it was two months ago.

Film and TV investor Content Partners just announced a new financing arm at a time when some institutional investors are fleeing Hollywood. Lordo said Content Partners saw a void to help entertainment companies that are stuck in a financing bind, unable to get bank or private-equity backing.
