New York CNN —For DirecTV subscribers frustrated by the loss of ESPN and other Disney-owned channels, the TV provider is offering some compensation as the blackout stretches into its third day. The company is offering credits of at least $20 to customers who have DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-Verse services — but customers won’t get the credit automatically. They must go to a special website and apply for it using their account’s email, and the credit will show up on a future bill. “We’re pursuing every avenue to get your station back,” DirecTV said on the website. “The Walt Disney Co. is once again refusing any accountability to consumers, distribution partners, and now the American judicial system,” Rob Thun, chief content officer at DirecTV, said in a previous statement.

The most surprising moment of this year’s Republican National Convention may have come on its first night, when the president of the Teamsters railed in prime time against corporate elites and denounced a “war against labor” by business groups. The first night of the Republican convention drew an estimated 18.13 million viewers, compared to around 20 million viewers on the DNC's opening night, according to Nielsen. The DNC's closing night exceeded viewership for the convention’s final night four years ago, when 24.6 million viewers tuned in across cable and TV for President Joe Biden’s speech. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's speech gave the stock market a jolt higher, reaffirming expectations for interest rate cuts going forward. Still, I believe the Fed will remain data dependent, which should temper euphoria and keep the S & P 500 in its 2024 range. I want to embrace this range and position accordingly for U.S. equites to again cool off going into September. Volatility has been the overarching theme for August, and I believe the recent uber-sensitivity to macro data will keep markets extraordinarily spastic.
