The decision was announced Tuesday as part of a plan called "Chaos Monkey 2023." The company said that Tuesday's "chaos monkey" changes were primarily intended to improve employees' ability to focus on their work. Two employees said they worried that the Slack changes in particular would reduce transparency and make their jobs more difficult. Shopify previously had dozens of public channels for special interests like photography and cryptocurrency. "And removing the public channels that are not directly work-related is another measure to weed out people, control narratives and people's conversations, and limit their opinions."
It shut down public Slack channels and deleted all meetings with more than two people. Shopify removed each employee from every existing public channel on the company's Slack workspace, deleted the message history from those public channels, and capped each channel at 150 members. Shopify previously had dozens of public channels for these special interests. Employees logged on to work Tuesday to see that they had been removed from all public Slack channels. But the company said that Tuesday's "chaos monkey" changes were primarily intended to improve employees' ability to focus on their work.
With Japan's own long-term yields pegged near zero by the central bank, the yen slid as long-term U.S. Treasury yields clambored off three-month lows. Meanwhile, the yuan hovered close to an almost three-month high after China revealed a loosening of stifling COVID restrictions. Fed policy makers will have the benefit of seeing the latest consumer inflation data a day before the decision. "The FOMC may step down the pace of its rate hikes to 50bp next week, but unless inflation decelerates consistently, upside risks to FOMC policy remain." Long-term Treasury yields plunged to an almost three-month low of 3.402% overnight, but bounced back to around 3.46% in Tokyo.

TOKYO, Dec 8 (Reuters) - The U.S. dollar remained weak on Thursday after sliding against major peers overnight for the first time this week as investors fretted about the potential for recession in the United States. The yuan hovered near an almost three-month high after China revealed a loosening of stifling COVID restrictions. Fed policy makers will have the benefit of seeing the latest consumer inflation data a day before the decision. "The FOMC may step down the pace of its rate hikes to 50bp next week, but unless inflation decelerates consistently, upside risks to FOMC policy remain." Long-term Treasury yields plunged to an almost three-month low overnight, and remained depressed in Tokyo trading at around 3.45%.
The following is a timeline of some other notable protests, and public dissent against China's ruling Communist Party. 2009 - Xinjiang - In the region's worst ethnic unrest in decades, ethnic Uighurs attacked majority Han Chinese in the capital Urumqi, after an incident involving Uighur workers in a factory in southern China. China later builds massive "facilities" to turn Xinjiang into what a United Nations panel described as a "massive internment camp shrouded in secrecy". China later imposes a powerful national security law, arresting scores of democrats and shutting down civil society groups and liberal media outlets, including the Apple Daily newspaper. 2022 - Henan bank protests - Public protests simmer as thousands lose access to their savings in a banking fraud scandal centred on rural lenders in Henan and Anhui provinces.
HONG KONG—The protests that swept through Chinese cities over the weekend were mainly about unhappiness over Beijing’s strict Covid-control measures, but they also reflected another source of tension Beijing is nervous about: growing economic frustration among China’s younger generation. The rare public displays of discontent, which included protests on university campuses, came as authorities have struggled to put a floor under the economy, which is on track to expand at the slowest pace in more than four decades this year, apart from 2020, the year when Covid-19 first made an impact.

Now a wave of startups offer access to a new category of drugs coupled with intensive behavioral coaching online. These patients pay hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars, to access new drugs, called GLP-1 agonists, along with online coaching to encourage healthy habits. (That price includes generic drugs, but not the newer GLP-1 agonists, like Wegovy.) The firms say they’re on the vanguard of weight care, both citing the influence of biology and other scientific factors as key ingredients to their approaches. Found said older generics like zonisamide are more accessible than the GLP-1 agonists advertised on social media and their own website.

LONDON, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Defusing this year's single biggest shock to the world economy could catalyze a rebound in global markets many investors feel is overdue - but may also raise other uncomfortable conundrums. Murmurs about some endgame in the 9-month-old Russian invasion of Ukraine - suggestions of anything from 'talks about talks' to some negotiated ceasefire - have swirled in media over the past week. All were watched as intently by global investors as much as politicians or military strategists. Western sanctions slapped on Moscow seeded an energy and food price explosion that compounded and elongated the post-pandemic inflation spike around the world. (Reuters) -Canadian auto parts maker Magna International Inc lowered its annual sales forecast after missing estimates for third-quarter profit on Friday, as supply chain snags and higher costs keep global vehicle production under pressure. FILE PHOTO: Magna logo is during Munich Auto Show, IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich, Germany, September 8, 2021. “We think auto parts pricing could come under pressure as auto inventories rise to more normal levels,” CFRA analyst Garrett Nelson said. The Aurora, Canada-based company which flagged lower sales in Russia, reported a revenue of $9.27 billion, above average analysts’ expectation of $9.16 billion, according to Refinitiv data. The Fed hiked interest rates by 0.75 percentage points on Wednesday. But Fed Chair Jerome Powell signaled the hikes could simmer down as soon as next month. "Incoming data since our last meeting suggests that ultimate level of interest rates will be higher than previously expected," he also said. "Increasing interest rates signals to working people that the government thinks we have too much money and we should have less money to spend." Powell stood by the hikes, but said they might soon come at a lesser scale to hopefully avoid a recession.

When it comes to the world’s best spicy dishes, we have some of the world’s hottest peppers to thank, along with incredible layers of flavor and a long, spice-loving human history. Peppers – a headliner for heat – are rated on the Scoville Heat Units scale, which measures capsaicin and other active components of chile peppers. And it’s the perky red pepper of the same name that brings the spiciness to this complex, layered and delicious dish. “The peperoncino (red chile pepper) is what makes this sauce ‘angry’ (arrabbiata) or spicy,” Chris MacLean of Italy-based Open Tuesday Wines said via email. FomaA/Adobe StockThe fiery Ethiopian spice blend called berbere – aromatic with chile peppers, basil, cardamom, garlic and ginger – is instrumental to the flavor chorus that’s doro wat, Ethiopia’s much-loved spicy chicken stew.

MIAMI, Oct 26 (Reuters) - LIV Golf's tumultuous inaugural season concludes this week at Trump National Doral Golf Club where the eye-popping prize money and the former-president may well be the main attraction. He instead praised the Northern Irishman on his great season while warning critics they had better get used to having LIV Golf around because it is not going away. LIV Golf will grow from eight to 14 events next season with Trump resorts, which hosted two of the eight stops this year, once again expected to figure prominently. "I think LIV has been a great thing for Saudi Arabia, for the image of Saudi Arabia," Trump told the Wall Street Journal. Play gets underway on the 'Blue Monster' on Friday with 12 four-man teams chasing a $16 million first-place prize.
Recent comments by Kanye West, now known as Ye, echo ancient antisemitic tropes, writes Tal Lavin. Over on Instagram, where I'd posted a picture of me cuddling a goat, someone commented: "Kanye West was right about you people." But these sentiments are just the tip of a much longer spear. Ye's comments in particular echo a very long history of antisemitic tropes — tropes that have left a trail of blood in their wake. On "Drink Champs" Ye spit into the mic about the evils of the "Jewish media."
Hong Kong CNN Business —As tensions between China and Taiwan simmer at their highest point in decades, officials in both places have clashed in recent days over an unsolicited idea from billionaire Elon Musk. Taiwan, a democracy of 23 million people, strongly objects to Beijing’s claims to the island. In a briefing on October 7, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the “Taiwan question is China’s internal affair.”“China’s position on resolving the Taiwan question is consistent and clear. We remain committed to the basic principle of peaceful reunification and ‘one country, two systems,’” he said. “Which Elon Musk do you like more?” Zelensky asked his Twitter followers, using the social media platform’s poll function.
Taipei, Taiwan CNN —Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen said Monday there is “no room for compromise” over the self-ruled island’s sovereignty but she is willing to work with China to find “mutually acceptable ways” to maintain peace across the Taiwan Strait. There is no room for compromise on this,” Tsai said in a speech marking Taiwan’s National Day, delivered as tensions between Taipei and Beijing simmer at the highest point in recent decades.
