The fed funds rate affects consumer borrowing and saving rates across the US economy, either directly or indirectly. Keep in mind, rates on savings and money market accounts will likely go a bit lower in the wake of the Fed’s rate cut Wednesday. Your debtDespite the Fed’s rate cuts, borrowers are generally not seeing notable relief because their rates have been so high. For the week ending December 12, the average rate on a 30-year fixed rate mortgage was 6.60%. “If you can shave one-half to three-quarters of a percentage point off your mortgage rate then refinancing is worth looking into.

An injection pen of Zepbound, Eli Lilly’s weight loss drug, is displayed in New York City on Dec. 11, 2023. The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday said the active ingredient in Eli Lilly's weight loss drug Zepbound is no longer in shortage, a decision that will eventually bar compounding pharmacies from making cheaper, unbranded versions of the injection. Zepbound and other weight loss drugs are not covered by many insurance plans, but Eli Lilly's diabetes counterpart Mounjaro is. It's the latest in a high-stakes dispute between compounding pharmacies and the FDA over a shortage of tirzepatide, the active ingredient in both Zepbound and Mounjaro. When a brand-name medication is in shortage, compounding pharmacies can prepare copies of the drug if they meet certain requirements under federal law.

The report alleged Republicans found evidence showing Cheney "tampered with at least one witness, Cassidy Hutchinson, by secretly communicating with Hutchinson without her attorney's knowledge." The select committee's 10 public hearings and final report featured numerous Republican witnesses, including many senior officials from the Trump White House, campaign and administration, Cheney noted in the statement. Hutchinson’s lawyer, William H. Jordan, said in a statement that the allegations that Hutchinson colluded with Cheney “are preposterous.”“Ms. Hutchinson, a close aide to Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, testified both privately and publicly to the committee about her knowledge of the lead-up Jan. 6 and what unfolded that day. While Republicans say there have been witnesses who have disputed Hutchinson’s account, it has also been corroborated by others.

CNN —The House Ethics Committee secretly voted earlier this month to release its report into the conduct of former Rep. Matt Gaetz before the end of this Congress, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the matter. When the committee voted last month to shelve the report, Gaetz was President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to be attorney general. It is exceedingly rare for an ethics report to be released after a member has left Congress, though it has happened on a couple of occasions in the past. The committee revisited the issue behind closed doors earlier this month after a feud over the report spilled into public view before Thanksgiving. And he said he “NEVER had sexual contact with someone under 18” — a claim that is addressed in the House Ethics report, CNN has previously reported.

The drone, launched by IRGC-backed militants, made impact near a shelter where some troops were sleeping and killed three U.S. service members. Older adults may still need to take vitamin D or calcium for overall health but should take different steps to protect from fractures or reduce the risk of falling. The draft recommendation is not yet final, but will be available on the task force’s website for public comment through January 21, along with a draft evidence review. “The other thing is that there were some questions about whether high doses might be beneficial of vitamin D and calcium,” Rao said. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, and benefits the immune system, the brain and muscle performance, among other functions. Steps older adults can take to reduce their risk of falls and fractures include getting screened for osteoporosis, especially for women 65 and older, Rao said, and regular exercise.
