New York CNN —Sam Altman is back at OpenAI. But Altman, Brockman and Sutskever in 2019 formed OpenAI LP, a for-profit entity that exists within the larger company’s structure. Altman had pushed the for-profit company to innovate faster and go to market with products. If not, Altman reportedly may opt for another venture, perhaps taking loyalists away from OpenAI to his new landing spot. Either way, OpenAI’s board made a consequential decision that will make massive waves in the AI industry for years to come.

Nov 16 (Reuters) - Swedish games developer Embracer (EMBRACb.ST) topped second-quarter operating profit expectations on Thursday, aided by its restructuring efforts, sending its shares up more than 11%. The group, which owns the rights to the Tomb Raider and Lord of the Rings games, reported a 14% drop in adjusted operating profit to 1.8 billion Swedish crowns ($170.2 million) in the quarter through September, but beat analysts' forecast of 1.62 billion crowns. The decline was mainly due to a lower contribution from PC and console games, it said. It announced major restructuring plans in June, after a $2 billion partnership deal with an undisclosed company fell through in May. Embracer's shares have lost nearly a half of their value since it warned on profit in May.

From a health perspective, people in places like the U.S., Canada and Europe eat far more meat, especially red meat and processed meat, than recommended. There’s no question that cutting back on meat consumption could have real and lasting effects. Meat consumption is “orders of magnitude higher” in the U.S. than in low-income countries, and meals are often centered around it. Despite those hurdles, certain interventions can cut meat consumption, research shows. Interventions described as “nudges,” or small choices aimed at influencing behavior, appear to be among the most effective at cutting meat consumption.

Washington, DC CNN —Total compensation paid to US workers grew at a faster pace than expected last quarter, pointing to ongoing momentum in the job market. That’s a faster pace than the 1% gain registered in the second quarter. Wage growth advanced at a robust 1.2% pace in the July-through-September period, accelerating from the prior three-month period’s 1% rise, contributing to a pickup in overall compensation growth. From a year earlier, wages and benefits grew 4.3% in the third quarter, a slower pace than the second quarter’s 4.5% annual gain and the first quarter’s 5% rate. An analysis from jobs site ZipRecruiter showed that consumer prices rose faster than wages from the first quarter of 2020 through this year’s second quarter: Consumer prices grew 17.2%, versus compensation growth of 13.6%.

Last year's U.S. Supreme Court decision rescinding a five-decade-old right to abortion has reshaped American abortion policy, shifting power to states. Sales of abortion pills in 2022 were up 60%, according to Nikolay Bespalov, development director of the RNC Pharma analytical company. A recent Health Ministry decree restricted circulation of abortion pills, used to terminate pregnancies in the first trimester. Regional authorities have tried to get private clinics to stop offering abortions, with varying success. In Tatarstan, about a third of all private clinics no longer provide them, officials said.

Meanwhile, House Republicans are pushing for a full plate of 12 separate funding bills to keep agencies running until Sept. 30, 2024, the end of the fiscal year. This rare feat requires close negotiation between the narrowly Republican-controlled House and the Senate, which has a two-vote Democratic majority. But the fiscal warfare between the Senate and conservative House Republicans that has raged since January is unlikely to end soon. Significant changes by Congress to Biden's request for aid to Ukraine and more money for border security were anticipated.
