Riojas is part of a base of Hispanic consumers that has become a focal point for Constellation Brands' beer business, which also includes products such as Corona and Pacífico. Hispanic- and Latino-identifying customers accounted for 32.5% of Constellation Brands' sales in 2023, according to data from consumer research firm Numerator and investment bank Jefferies. "Hispanic consumers are the single most important consumer group for our beer business," said Mallika Monteiro, executive vice president and managing director for Constellation's beer brands. The company officially acquired the U.S. beer business of Groupo Modelo, which included Modelo and Corona, from Anheuser-Busch in 2013. "Time and time again, you see that there's that strong bond that consumers form emotionally with brands," Aguirre-Rodriguez said.

On Wednesday, House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., joined Rep. Susan Wild, D-Pa., here on a tour of Latino-owned small businesses. Though she is the incumbent and older than Mackenzie, Wild, 67, labeled Mackenzie, 42, a “career politician,” noting he has served in elected office for 12 years — twice as long as her. “She has a failed record on border security,” Mackenzie said in a Thursday interview after a rally with Johnson in Hellertown. “Every state is a border state, as we say, because they opened the border wide, and ya’ll, they did it intentionally, OK? Goldman Environmental Prize winner Andrea Vidaurre said her award-winning efforts to improve air quality in California are very much tied to her own experiences. Vidaurre, who is Peruvian American, was born and raised in California’s Inland Empire, which is east of Los Angeles and has some of the country’s worst air quality. “It is really personal to me because they are the front lines of all of this,” she said. “If you live anywhere in the region, you’re impacted by air quality.”Vidaurre was one of six people around the globe — one for each inhabited continent — who were awarded what’s been referred to as the “Green Nobel” earlier this year. Other states have also adopted California’s regulations, meaning that Vidaurre’s work has had a national impact.

“I am the hopey changey guy so I understand people feeling frustrated, feeling we can do better,” Obama said. Obama slams Trump over false hurricane conspiracy theoriesThe former president on Thursday accused Trump of violating basic American values. “When did that become OK?”But the Trump campaign is not letting go of claims that were debunked even by many Republican state and local officials. At a Harris campaign office, Obama wondered whether the reticence of some “brothers” to support the Democratic nominee came down to sexism. But Democratic concerns about Harris’ campaign are palpable.

In August, the Trump campaign spent about $15.5 million on television ads centered on immigration. In the face of this polling, though, Trump is betting on his gut, telling a Wisconsin crowd on Sunday, “I really don’t agree” that the economy will decide the election. And it’s the hardest problem to solve too.”On comfortable groundIllegal immigration is certainly comfortable terrain for Trump. We’re all intellectuals today,” Trump said in a mocking tone in August in Asheville, North Carolina, where he was supposed to speak about the economy. The images rapidly spread around social media, with Trump supporters claiming they depicted Venezuelan gangs taking over an apartment complex.

The Democratic National Committee has launched an "informational campaign" that includes bilingual billboards across the city ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris’ Univision town hall in Las Vegas on Thursday night. The campaign directs Latino voters and union members to check their registration status and look at options on how to cast their ballots through IWillVote.com and VoyAVotar.com. The majority of U.S. labor unions have endorsed Harris though many union members support Trump. “Nevada’s Latino and union voters have the power to decide who wins the Silver State in November,” DNC spokesperson Marco Frieri said in a statement. Latino voters are a critical voting bloc and can swing outcomes in battleground states across the country including Nevada, Arizona and Pennsylvania.

Obama in past campaigns has relished mocking and criticizing Trump, but his speech and delivery on Thursday were stinging and unusually visceral. New York CNN —Univision will not fact check Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump on stage during their respective town halls, the Spanish language network confirmed to CNN. A TelevisaUnivision spokesperson told CNN the fact checking decision was not a condition for any candidate’s participation. Fact checking has become a major sticking point during the 2024 election, with both Trump and his running-mate Sen. J.D. Acevedo’s interview with Trump in November stunned many inside and outside the network for its softer approach and lack of fact checks. “These town halls are offering Latino voters an unprecedented opportunity to talk to the candidates.

Like the presidential contest, the Senate race offers deep contrasts in a state that’s been divided neatly in half for years. We want to have a lawfully run election,” Lake said. In 2022, Lake challenged her loss to Hobbs, taking it all the way through the Arizona legal system. “It’s going to be a tight race,” Lake acknowledged. In 2018, Gallego rallied alongside Sen. Harris advisers often publicly dismiss the polls, acknowledging that the race is close and will remain so leading up to Election Day. Others want to focus on mobilizing men and men of color to turn out – a demographic that remains a point of concern among Harris campaign officials. And I am running like the underdog because I am the underdog in this race,” Harris told donors at a fundraiser in late September. “When Black voters are getting inundated by anti-Harris mail, anti-Harris ads, the face-to-face conversations matter even more,” the operative said. Harris campaign surrogates have told CNN that there is also still a lot to do to shore up support among Latinos in the final weeks before Election Day.

But Pennsylvania stands apart as the state that top strategists for both Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump have circled as the likeliest to tip the election. There are struggling industrial towns where Mr. Trump needs to maximize his vote, and smaller cities booming with Latino immigrants where Ms. Harris aims to make gains. Mr. Trump won the county in 2016 by 19 percentage points, only four years after Mr. Obama carried it narrowly. One X factor is the regional impact of the assassination attempt on Mr. Trump in Butler County. “You guys don’t know what the hell it is,” Mr. Trump said of the tax break.

In today’s edition, politics reporter Allan Smith looks at how Elon Musk could help (or hurt) Donald Trump on the campaign trail. Plus, national political correspondent Steve Kornacki breaks down the different paths to victory Kamala Harris and Trump are attempting to chart in Pennsylvania. The disparate images helped paint a picture of both the benefits and the detriments to having Musk in Trump’s corner. Musk’s appearance at Trump’s Pennsylvania rally over the weekend was the culmination of a yearslong rightward drift for the eccentric billionaire, expedited by his purchase of Twitter in 2022. After his appearance in western Pennsylvania, Musk started to offer people $47 if they successfully get a swing-state voter to sign onto a petition backing the First and Second Amendments.

Women make up roughly half of U.S. labor union membership, but representation in top level union leadership positions has lagged, even in female-dominated industries and particularly for women of color. Data from the U.S. Department of Labor shows that Black and Latina women experience a particularly wide gender pay gap. Juliana Yamada / APBlack and Latina women are driving labor union growth in the U.S. amid a decades-long decline in membership. In 2023, Black women’s union membership rate notched a slight bump from 10.3% to 10.5%, while Latinas went up from 8.5% to 8.8%. Momentum for Black and Latina women rising into labor union leadership has picked up in the last five years.

Bret: One of the most interesting recent stories in The Times is an analysis of undecided voters, and their concerns about Trump and Harris. One of most important findings — one that should really concern the Harris campaign — is that a high proportion of undecided voters are young, low-income and Black or Latino. The concerns about Trump are familiar: “too extreme,” “angered easily” and so on. But some of the concerns about Harris were more surprising. The other part, I think, is that Harris hasn’t done enough to reassure undecided voters that she’s decisive, knowledgeable and well-advised.

Jim Cramer is planning to stay in the game with Constellation Brands , despite a Wall Street firm moving to the sidelines on the Mexican beer importer. Shares of New York-based Constellation Brands fell 1.5% Monday, off their lows of the session. In the June-to-August period reported Thursday, beer sales rose 6%, compared with increases of 8%, 11% and 11.8% in its three prior quarters. In explaining why we're sticking with Constellation, Jim said Monday he liked what he heard from Constellation Brands CEO Bill Newlands during the executive's appearance Friday on "Mad Money." This uptick coincided with increased marketing spending behind its top beer brands, Newlands said.

It's been quite a year for NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns. This week it became official that Towns, the Minnesota Timberwolves 7-foot center/forward, will be playing for the New York Knicks. And in May, KAT — as he’s known — was named the 2023-24 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Social Justice Champion “for his voting rights advocacy as well as his work across the justice and education systems,” the NBA said. Towns’ advocacy helped pass legislation ensuring formerly incarcerated people in Minnesota could exercise their right to vote.
