I’m all for surgical strikes against Hamas and I would be delighted if Israel managed to end extremism in Gaza. WASHINGTON (AP) — Supporters of Israel rallied by the thousands on the National Mall under heavy security Tuesday, voicing solidarity in the fight against Hamas and crying “never again." The Homeland Security Department designated the march a “level 1” security event, the highest classification in its system and one usually used for the Super Bowl and other major events, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press. In Paris, an estimated 105,000 demonstrators joined the march, making it the largest mobilization against antisemitism since the protest against the desecration of the Jewish cemetery in Carpentras in 1990, according to CNN affiliate BFM TV. Protesters were joined in the French capital by political figures including Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne and former presidents Francois Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy. Tensions have been rising in France, and particularly in the capital, over the Israel-Hamas war, resulting in a surge in antisemitic incidents, according to French President Emmanual Macron. Pro-Palestinian rallies in EuropeThe marches against antisemitism in France came as pro-Palestinian demonstrators also rallied in multiple European capitals over the weekend. A pro-Palestinian demonstration also took place in Germany’s financial capital Frankfurt on Sunday, as well as in Barcelona and Brussels on Saturday.

Ilhan Omar got a prominent Democratic primary challenger Sunday when former Minneapolis City Council member Don Samuels announced he'll try once again to unseat her after coming close in 2022. But Omar — a Somali American and Muslim — has come under renewed fire for condemning the Israeli government’s handling of its war against Hamas. CNN —GOP presidential hopeful Chris Christie promised on Sunday to tell Americans of the devastation he saw in Israel after becoming the first Republican presidential candidate to visit the country following the October 7 Hamas attacks. Christie said people play on “confusion and misinformation” around events like this, and that he would go back to the US and share “exactly” what he saw in foreign policy speech scheduled for Wednesday. Christie told CNN that he and Israeli President Isaac Herzog discussed the state of the war and the US’ involvement, as well as the hostage situation during a meeting in Jerusalem.
