Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, speaks to the media as he arrives at the Sun Valley Lodge for the Allen & Company Sun Valley Conference on July 11, 2023 in Sun Valley, Idaho. Some, like ex-OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, believe in taking it to an extreme — and that's when they turn from inspiring to frightening, says a leadership expert. "The most successful people I know believe in themselves almost to the point of delusion." Altman is "far from the first entrepreneur to have endorsed the idea that you have to believe in yourself, above all else" to succeed, says Moore. In his blog post, titled "How To Be Successful," Altman cited billionaire Elon Musk's "absolute certainty" that SpaceX could soon send a rocket to Mars as the "benchmark for what conviction looks like."

LAS VEGAS (AP) — General Motors said Tuesday it has registered with Formula One's governing body to become an engine supplier starting in 2028 in what is seen as a huge boost to Michael Andretti's bid to join the global motorsports series. “We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 entry will be powered by a GM power unit,” GM President Mark Reuss said. GM in January announced its partnership with Andretti Global under its Cadillac banner on Andretti's application to join F1. GM doesn't have its own F1 power unit and said its effort would be in conjunction with an existing manufacturer. If Andretti gets approved to join an expanded F1 grid, he would have to use another manufacturer's engine until 2028.

U.S. GP results stand after F1 stewards reject Haas appeal
  + stars: | 2023-11-09 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
Stewards ruled, in a lengthy statement, that Haas had presented no significant and relevant new element that was unavailable to them at the time of the Oct. 22 race in Austin, Texas. The decision was reached after a virtual hearing that started on Wednesday and was deferred to Thursday. Haas, last in the championship, sought the review during last weekend's Sao Paulo Grand Prix because they believed some rivals exceeded track limits without sanction. The U.S.-owned team argued that the track limit infringements were "neither noted, nor investigated nor penalized by the stewards as reflected in the final classification." The stewards found the onboard camera footage of Albon's Williams and following cars was significant but not new, previously unavailable or relevant.

Arm's big break came in 1993 when Apple released its handheld Newton device on the Arm610 processor. Apple moved to its own Arm-based processors in Mac computers in 2020, breaking away from the Intel x86 processors that had powered them for 15 years. Qualcomm is another major customer making its latest PC processors using Arm, although that relationship is strained. This simplification is also making Arm the choice for non-chip companies like Apple, Amazon, Google and Microsoft designing their own custom silicon.

The good news is that CEO Rene Haas expects revenue in the fiscal year to March of roughly $3 billion, in line with analysts' expectations. The less good news, which dragged Arm’s shares down 8%, is that Haas said revenue in the fiscal quarter to December might be anywhere from $720 million to $800 million. Admittedly, at the midpoint of the range that’s only $10 million below the mean analyst forecast, per LSEG.

Rene Haas, CEO of semiconductor company Arm, told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday that the company has moved beyond its beginnings, where it was primarily known for designing technology used in smartphones. Arm designs graphics chips and licenses them to companies, collecting royalties to earn much of its revenue. Haas said 70% of the world's population touches Arm in some way, with its technology present in many widely-used devices including electric cars, digital TVs and smart locks. On Wednesday, the chip designer released its first quarterly report since its IPO, reporting revenue that beat Wall Street's expectations. Three-time champion Max Verstappen led from the start and won the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday. Sergio Perez of Red Bull finished in fourth place, distancing himself from Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton in one of the few competitions left this season — a position for runner-up. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who was going to start second, crashed during the formation lap before the start due to an engine issue.
