This analogy was the segue into Goldman Sachs' 2023 mid-year investment outlook. "Do not change lanes unnecessarily," said Sharmin Mossavar-Rahmani, head of the investment strategy group and chief investment officer of wealth management at the firm. Historically, when stocks draw down 20% or more, returns are favorable in the following 12 and 24 months, she added. "What is really fascinating when you've had this kind of narrow breadth, the market actually continues to rally," Mossavar-Rahmani said. On the one hand, private sector balance sheets remain healthy, prices in the global housing market remain stable due to an undersupply, and there has been a gradual recovery in the services sector.

July 19 (Reuters) - Australia's BrainChip Holdings Ltd (BRN.AX) surged nearly 11% to mark its best day in six weeks after the advanced artificial intelligence chipmaker received a patent grant in the United States on one of its neuromorphic processors. Neuromorphic processors mimic the way the brain works and allow devices to use signals from physical neurons to carry out computations. The patent protects the neural processor's feature of reconfigurability, which "provides a significant advantage, enabling the development of multipurpose and cost-effective hardware designs", BrainChip said. BrainChip now has 17 issued patents, with around 30 patent applications pending in the United States, Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, India, among others. Markets are now focusing their attention on U.S. consumer prices data due out on Wednesday, which will provide more clarity on the progress the Fed has made in its fight against stubbornly high inflation. U.S. interest rate expectations have been a key driver of the dollar since the Fed began its tightening cycle last year. A survey from the New York Federal Reserve on Monday showed waning near-term inflation expectations among Americans, who said last month they were expecting the weakest near-term inflation gains in just over two years. Sterling , meanwhile, hit a near 15-month high of $1.2913 after British wage growth hit a joint record high, heaping pressure on the Bank of England to tighten policy further to bring inflation under control. China property shares rise on financial support policy
  + stars: | 2023-07-11 | by ( Clare Jim | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
HONG KONG, July 11 (Reuters) - Shares of Chinese property developers rose on Tuesday after regulators extended some policies in a rescue package introduced in November to shore up liquidity in the embattled sector. Analysts said while the extended policy could ease the short-term financial pressure on property developers and ensure their home project completions, new measures would be needed to tackle the cash crunch in the sector. The sector has been hit by many company defaults amid a debt crisis since mid-2021, triggered by non-repayments of China Evergrande Group (3333.HK), the world's most indebted property developer. Sunac China (1918.HK), Logan Group (3380.HK) and KWG Group (1813.HK) listed in Hong Kong were among the top gainers, rising 4%-5%. Nomura said the "band-aid-style" policy support on Monday is unlikely to revive property sales, which have been weak for months, as it does little to restore home buyers' confidence.
