After Republican President-elect Donald Trump’s dramatic performance with Latino voters, a coalition of Democratic-leaning Latino groups is grappling with the shift and trying to reconcile it with the policies they say many Hispanics support. Along with UnidosUS, Latino-focused advocacy groups such as Voto Latino, Somos Votantes, Hispanic Federation and La Brega y Fuerza Fund sponsored a poll of Latino voters. The coalition rejected national exit poll findings showing that Trump won the majority of Latino men — 55% — to Harris’ 43%. Edison Research, which conducts national exit polling for NBC News and other news organizations, surveyed 2,750 Latino voters nationally. Thirty-seven percent of male participants in exit polling identified as white, while 6% identified as Latino in the Latino groups’ poll.

The necklace has been worn at two British coronations and may contain diamonds from the infamous necklace at the heart of a scandal that tainted the reputation of Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France. The exact origins of the necklace have not been recorded, with Sotheby’s stressing it does not know for certain. That history centers on Louis XV, the king of France, who commissioned a lavish diamond necklace for his mistress, Madam Du Barry, in 1722 — two years before he died of smallpox. Marie Antoinette, the country's new queen consort, declined to buy the necklace despite her reputation for extravagance. In 2022, bracelets that once belonged to Marie Antoinette sold for more than $8 million at auction, also in Geneva.

In one, Biden arrived as the confident statesman burnishing a legacy and preparing to hand off to his vice president. In the other, he was faced with anxious world leaders and fresh questions about whether, as he’d spent four years claiming, “America was back.”He wanted the first. Denied a victory lap on the world stage, Biden will instead use his time in Peru and Brazil this week for reflection and looking ahead. No longer viewed on the world stage as the American president who defeated Donald Trump — and his “America First” ideology — for good, Biden will find himself amid leaders who are already moving on. Trump has said he plans to bring down gas prices by boosting US oil production. AdvertisementDuring the presidential campaign, Trump said that he planned to lower energy prices — including the cost of gas — by increasing US oil production. Cahill added that he expects the US to increase oil production, but it will happen gradually. However, he said boosting oil production while keeping prices at a desired level is a "delicate balance" for the industry. "If oil prices drop, you're likely to see a natural decline in US oil production over the long run," he said, adding, "Oil companies have shareholders to be accountable to."

The coming reign of the only child
  + stars: | 2024-11-11 | by ( Ann Friedman | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +16 min
American women are having kids later in life, leaving less time to bear multiple children. American women in general are having children later, but the delay is most pronounced among the most educated. Even religious conservatives, who are biblically motivated to be fruitful and multiply, are starting families later and more often having only one child. So what will the coming reign of the only child mean for America? Just as having children is no longer seen as a required stage of adulthood, having siblings will no longer be a de facto part of childhood.

The rumbling was felt across the eastern stretch of Cuba, including in bigger cities like Santiago de Cuba. The earthquake comes during another tough stretch for Cuba. First, it was hit by island-wide blackouts stretching on for days, a product of the island’s energy crisis.
