The power needs of data centers will temporarily prolong the demand for coal, maintaining the reliability of the electric grid but delaying the nation's decarbonization goals, according to Moody's Ratings. The electricity demand from data centers could more than double to 35 gigawatts by 2030 compared to 17 gigawatts in 2022, according to a Moody's report published Monday. "It can be cost effective for them to supply coal to those power plants, and those power plants can, in turn, meet the incremental demand coming in from the new data centers," Sama said. The benefit to U.S. coal producers, however, will be temporary as data center developers transition to cleaner sources of power, according to Moody's. But sustained coal demand in the U.S. due to data centers could briefly lift prices before coal resumes its decline after a few years, according to Moody's.

Nearly anyone looking for a job today can tell you that sifting through online job postings is a nightmare. When Natasha Badger, 25, was last on the job market, she tried a different strategy on LinkedIn and landed final-round interviews with three companies in the span of weeks. Badger, a digital marketer and career-content creator, quit her job with LinkedIn in September 2022 and went the typical route of applying to new ones on online job boards. Badger tried this with three companies — a big financial institution, an agency and a startup — and made it into the hiring process every time. "It really was so effective," Badger says of the LinkedIn strategy, "and I was like, 'How is this not something people are doing?'"

Artificial intelligence is already changing the way some people work, but it's not yet poised to replace the work that humans do, according to a new report from Indeed. A 68.7% majority of skills were "very unlikely" or "unlikely" to be replaced by AI, while 28.5% of skills may "potentially" be replaceable. Indeed's report examined soft skills like communication, leadership and organization, more technical skills including specific coding languages, and hands-on skills such as cooking and administering medication. Still, workers shouldn't shy away from certain career paths that are more susceptible to being replaced by AI, according to Gudell. "It's really all about using these tools to your maximum advantage when you're searching for a job," Gudell says.

The Trump campaign had pounced on Harris’ comments Tuesday on ABC's "The View" that "there’s not a thing that comes to mind" when she was asked what she would have done differently from Biden during his term. The Trump campaign also cut a video interspersing Harris’ quote with news clips about the widely criticized withdrawal from Afghanistan and crime connected to migrants, as well as inflation. She said the legislation would have added 1,500 more border agents, "except Donald Trump got in the way of that bill." Union members are still angry that Boeing demanded they give up their traditional pension plans 10 years ago, when the company was doing well financially. Even with all of its problems, Boeing is likely at no risk of disappearing. If airlines that are Boeing customers cancel their order, they would have to wait five years for a comparable jet from Airbus. Boeing will discontinue that plane once its current orders are completed and delivered to customers in 2027. That plane is built by some of the union members now on strike.
