Microsoft on Tuesday announced a major update to Copilot, its AI system, that it says marks the first step toward creating an “AI companion” for users. The updated Copilot has new capabilities, including real-time voice interactions and the ability to interpret images and text on users’ screens. Copilot’s update also reflects Microsoft’s specific vision for how everyday people will use AI as the technology develops. Parent company Meta (META) announced Wednesday that it is adding voice conversations and celebrity voices to its artificial intelligence chatbot, Meta AI. Now, instead of simply messaging with the chatbot, users can have real-time conversations and can choose from a selection of computer-generated or celebrity voices. "The FTC's enforcement actions make clear that there is no AI exemption from the laws on the book," Khan said. In addition to the Quest 3S, Meta on Wednesday also showcased its latest prototype of augmented-reality smart glasses and announced a flurry of new features for its Meta AI chatbot. Amelia is the latest generative AI tool that Amazon has brought to market in the past year as it seeks to capitalize on the hype sparked by OpenAI's ChatGPT. The company has introduced an AI-powered shopping assistant named Rufus, a chatbot for businesses dubbed Q and Bedrock, a generative AI service for cloud customers. More than 400,000 of Amazon's millions of third-party sellers have used its AI listing tool, up from 200,000 in June, he said. With Amelia, Amazon is counting on generative AI to help with a key issue for third-party merchants — account troubleshooting. Amazon said the tool uses retrieval-augmented generation, or RAG, a popular AI industry framework that combines generative AI with long-established methods of information retrieval.
