The Federal Reserve's move to start cutting interest rates bodes well for dividend-paying stocks, and Morgan Stanley thinks several companies are poised to join their ranks. "Equity investors are seeking durable, higher yielding dividends as market volatility is expected to continue throughout the easing cycle," wrote Morgan Stanley strategist Todd Castagno in a report last Friday. Morgan Stanley drew up a list of companies that might have what it takes to start paying dividends, drawn from stocks that boast net cash and generate a free cash flow exceeding 3%. Instacart was also seen as a potential dividend initiator by Morgan Stanley. Other companies that Morgan Stanley highlighted as potential dividend initiators include short-term vacation rental company Airbnb and biotech play United Therapeutics .

The Missouri bird flu patient, who didn’t have known contact with poultry or dairy cows, was hospitalized in August and tested positive for the H5 virus. The CDC reported last week that a health care worker who cared for the patient developed mild respiratory symptoms and tested negative for influenza. Additionally, a person who lived with the Missouri patient also became sick on the same day. The second health care worker will be offered a blood test to determine if there are antibodies for the bird flu virus. It isn’t yet known how the Missouri patient got infected with bird flu, the CDC said Friday.

Surveys indicate that health care is among the top priorities for voters in the November presidential election. Former President Donald Trump has given little detail about his health care vision; his running mate, JD Vance, has suggested deregulation. Each country was graded on five categories: access to care, care process, administrative efficiency, equity and health outcomes. “For far too many people, high-quality medical care is out of reach.”Dr. Adam Gaffney, a critical care physician at the Cambridge Health Alliance in Massachusetts, pointed out that the U.S. differs from the other countries in one critical area: universal health care coverage. Thursday’s report also listed solutions to the country’s health care problems, including lowering the cost of care and expanding access to coverage.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., renewed his criticism of drugmaker Novo Nordisk on Tuesday, claiming that the CEOs of major generic pharmaceutical companies have told him that they can produce and sell its blockbuster diabetes drug Ozempic for less than $100 a month. During Tuesday's roundtable, Sanders said his recent conversations with generic drugmakers revealed that Novo Nordisk's pricing is "nothing less than excess corporate greed." “They have studied the math, and they tell me that they can sell a generic version of Ozempic, the exact same drug that Novo Nordisk is manufacturing, to Americans for less than $100 a month," Sanders said. Sanders’ office declined to say which generic drug companies told him that they could sell Ozempic at a fraction of what Novo Nordisk charges. Novo Nordisk did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump won the presidency in 2016 by stunning Democrat Hillary Clinton to win all three states by a combined margin of about 80,000 votes. But, as in other states, Democrats have been concerned about the risk of depressed turnout and some gains for Trump among Black voters in Philadelphia. Eight years later, the two states split again, when Roosevelt comfortably won Pennsylvania and Michigan narrowly went to Republican Wendell Willkie. This trio of states has arguably become the most consistent tipping point in American politics. In the nine elections since 1920 when they split their vote, the candidate who carried two of these three states won seven times.

Over the last year, a growing number of cinnamon products have been recalled in the U.S. due to high levels of lead. That prompted Consumer Reports to test brands such as Badia, McCormick and Morton & Bassett, along with smaller brands, across 17 mainstream and niche grocery stores. It found high levels of lead in 12 products, with levels reaching 3.5 parts per million. Paras cinnamon powder had the most lead, according to Consumer Reports, containing 3.52 ppm. The FDA has wound down some of its response efforts to its cinnamon applesauce investigation but will continue to monitor other products in stores for high lead levels.

All legislation must also be passed by the Senate before it can be sent to President Joe Biden to be signed into law. It is unclear how many of the measures will make it that far given the limited number of days the Senate is in session for the rest of the year. But their success in the House could pave the way for even stronger regulatory moves in the next Congress, Singleton said. The Chinese companies, whose work includes cancer research and manufacturing for American drugmakers, say data privacy is not at risk and that the measure will limit competition. “We are disappointed that the U.S. legislative process is being used to pick winners and losers,” Shenzhen-based BGI Group said in a statement.

Ron DeSantis’ administration is once again advising against the mRNA vaccines: this time in the most vulnerable residents. In updated guidance for health care providers released Thursday, the Florida Health Department and state Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo questioned the safety and effectiveness of the mRNA Covid vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, including for older adults and people with underlying health problems. Dr. Paul Offit, a vaccine expert at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, said the Florida surgeon general's guidance is unnecessarily alarming people about the Covid vaccines. "The mRNA vaccines are remarkably safe," he added. The CDC currently recommends everyone ages 6 months and older get an updated Covid vaccine this fall from any of the three options.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday guided investors through next week's top Wall Street action, highlighting a long-awaited interest rate decision from the Federal Reserve and earnings from restaurant chain companies Darden and Cracker Barrel. Investors are broadly expecting the central bank to issue a rate cut but are unsure whether it will be by 25 or 50 basis points. Cramer said he's betting on the former, saying he thinks the Fed should be measured when making cuts and not risk an inflation flareup. He added that he thinks the stock is a bargain, but cautioned that Wall Street tends to sell stocks from that sector when the Fed cuts rates. On Thursday, Olive Garden-parent Darden , Cracker Barrel and FedEx are set to report.
