Two Gen Z travelers tell Insider they're willing to pay up for an authentic experience that also feels luxurious. One hospitality expert says technology and convenience should be at the forefront of hoteliers' minds when targeting Gen Z guests. "When it comes to traveling, Gen Z prioritizes authenticity and living in the moment," said Sharon Silverstein, the head of US verticals at Snapchat parent company Snap. "(Gen Z wants) to feel like they're doing something – that they're relevant — because they're living at home and can't afford to live otherwise. So Gen Z spends its money on experiences, but they want those experiences to be educational and have values that support their beliefs," Dawson Sheehan said.
Some of the major players in the fitness sector have pushed the envelope on membership rates after the pandemic scare, helping them beef up earnings, when most other industries are under stress from the impact of a cautious consumer. Larger rival Planet Fitness Inc (PLNT.N) added 400,000 members in the fourth quarter, taking the total to about 17 million in 2022. "People that are working out, are working out slightly more than they did in the past ... So even with the recessionary talks and layoffs you see, cancellations are just slightly better," Planet Fitness CEO Chris Rondeau said at a JPMorgan conference last week. A Planet Fitness executive said Gen Z represented 25% of the company's total membership.

He quit finance after his dad passed away to try and recover from his state of "mental chaos." I really didn't have a burning passion for anything growing up. My family and I brainstormed for a different career path and ended up with economics because I was good at math. People always said that economics would lead to a good career in finance or consulting, so I was happy to give it a try. I shut myself away and didn't spend much time with my friends because I was in such a state of mental chaos.
Gen Z is divided on the question of remote work, according to a new Dell Technologies study. In a survey, 29% of respondents said remote work is important, but another 29% said they favor office-based roles. As Insider's Aki Ito wrote in June, the preference for remote work is largely split by generation, with the oldest workers expressing the strongest preference for permanent remote work and the youngest workers — Gen Z — expressing the least preference. Many companies have been changing their remote work policies as the world continues to adjust after the pandemic. Meanwhile, JPMorgan's CEO Jamie Dimon is famously against remote work, and the company has been tracking staff office attendance using employee ID swipes.

Allison Hemming started "pink-slip parties" in the early aughts after the dotcom bust. Back then, like now, tech workers lost their jobs en masse. Hemming began running regular meetups for laid-off tech workers — misery loves company, after all — giving them an opportunity to network and meet prospective hiring managers. Will the latest tech layoffs spur a return of pink-slip parties? The tech workers losing their jobs today have a nice runway because a lot of big nontech companies are still hiring.

Nov 30 (Reuters) - A warning from Crowdstrike Holdings Inc (CRWD.O) that clients were cutting back on spending and delaying purchases due to an economic slowdown slammed cybersecurity stocks on Wednesday, inflicting fresh pain on the battered sector. "Increased macroeconomic headwinds elongated sales cycles with smaller customers and caused some larger customers to pursue multi-phase subscription start dates," Crowdstrike Chief Executive Officer George Kurtz said. The results are the latest in a series of dour reports from cybersecurity firms, whose business boomed during the pandemic but is now seeing a slowdown, making them a hot target for private equity buyouts. "Resilient, but not immune is a theme that will likely dominate the narrative during our October quarter-cohort earnings cycle," Piper Sandler analysts said. Still, some analysts see long-term benefits from the rising demand for cybersecurity as more businesses take to the web and high-profile hacks force companies to be more cautious.
