Wealthy Americans ages 26 to 35 are moving to Florida, Texas, and New Jersey. This was in contrast to the over 5,000 net young high earners who left New York, which still had the highest count of young high earners of any state. Despite losses of nearly 2,700 high earners, New Jersey netted over 1,000 wealthy, young professionals. Connecticut, which ranked sixth for net migration of young high earners, had a similar trend compared with all high earners. Washington, DC, exceeded Washington state at 16%, even though it lost nearly 700 young, wealthy professionals.

A new survey shows having "a better quality of life" makes more Gen Zers feel wealthy than financial security. In contrast, 61% of baby boomers said feeling "wealthy" means having financial security, followed by having good health at 33%. That's not to say financial security isn't important to Gen Zers. According to Credit Karma data shared with Insider, the average Gen Z credit card balance is up 45% since March 2022. All this is to say Gen Zers may be looking to invest in vacations with friends to feel wealthy instead of saving up every dollar to feel financially secure.

A record-high share of Americans is taking on monthly car payments of $1,000 or more. Car payments exceed housing as the biggest expense for some Gen Zers and millennials. Last year, the median monthly rent payment in the US was roughly $1,000, according to the Federal Reserve. Sherbina said managing his high monthly car bill — in addition to his other living expenses — could be stressful. "Having this high of a car payment is both stressful and has some psychological impacts," he said.

Companies will want people who can use the tech but will also need skills AI can't replicate. An emphasis on soft skills could be good for older workers and bad for some remote workers. But as one Oxford economist told Insider, there's another set of workers that could benefit from an AI boom: workers with the people skills that AI can't replicate. The impact of artificial intelligence on Wall Street has plenty of people concerned, but some financial advisors fear a much more sinister opponent. Financial advisors are right to be concerned. Gen Z's retirement savings have grown more than any other generational cohort over the past year, Fidelity Investment's latest retirement analysis reveals. Fidelity defines Generation Zers as those born between 1997 and 2012. The average 401(k) balance for a Gen Zer is about $7,100, as indicated by Fidelity data provided to CNBC Make It — significantly higher than the cohort's median 401(k) balance of $2,500. This disparity isn't unique to Gen Z: Americans' average overall 401(k) balance is $108,200, compared to a median of around $23,700. While she's still getting used to the change, she says she's happier and more creative. In her experience, corporate work was repetitive. The job was remote, so I moved back home for a year to work from there. I'd gotten used to remote learning after being virtual for school, so I felt prepared for that aspect of my job. I just got out of college, so giving more work to someone else who's much older than me feels weird.
She likes interacting with guests and is happy she didn't end up in a corporate job. "I was looking for a corporate job just because that's what everybody in my life who didn't go to grad school did," she said. She told Insider she makes around $58,000 and part of her rent is covered, as she has employee subsidized housing. A new Deloitte survey finds that over half of Gen Z and millennials live paycheck to paycheck. That also means Gen Z and millennials feel like starting a family or owning a home are out of reach. Indeed, cost of living remains the biggest concern for Gen Z and millennials, with over a third of Gen Z ranking it as a top concern, and 42% of millennials staying the same. Half of Gen Z and 47% of millennials said that they expect starting a family "to become harder or impossible." Two years ago — when I was 22 — I finally learned what someone with the title of "data analyst" did, while still working that first job. Along the blurry edge at the cusp of the two generations, between Gen Y and Z, is where zillennials live. Zillennials straddle the generations of millennials, who are considered digital pioneers, and Gen Z, who are considered digital natives who never knew life before screens. While zillennials often feel they don’t fit in with either Gen Z or millennials, Dorsey said the middle zone they occupy has its own advantages. His firm’s research has shown Gen Z to be more connected to social causes than millennials, with zillennials similarly more interested than millennials when it comes to social issues. From a young age, zillennials have learned the effects of climate change, said Carr.
