Taco Bell is stepping up its breakfast game to compete with McDonald's. But lately, fast-food chains such as Wendy's and Taco Bell have demonstrated that they want to steal breakfast customers from McDonald's. So I decided to put the breakfast menus of McDonald's and Taco Bell to the test. McDonald's and Taco Bell have more than a dozen breakfast items on their menus. Taco Bell leans into burritos and breakfast wraps, while the McDonald's menu is heavy on breakfast sandwiches.

That feature has been around since Dunkin's mobile app first launched in August 2012. The chain first began testing mobile ordering in a handful of markets in 2009 before going national in 2011. For example, the Chipotle app gives you uber-specific portion size choices such as "normal," "extra" or "light' servings.

McDonald's said it's gaining middle- and higher-income customers, who are trading down to its menu. McDonald's expects to raise menu prices by about 10% this year — on top of a 10% increase last year. AdvertisementAdvertisementMcDonald's said Monday that customers continue to count on the chain for affordable meals, even as it raises menu prices. "Providing affordable options for our customers has always been core to McDonald's' success," Borden said. But the definition of "cheap" is changing in the face of persistent inflation — and McDonald's is far from the only restaurant chain raising prices.

Chipotle said it plans to keep 53 college-town stores open until midnight on Halloween. The chain said it is targeting college towns popular with Gen Z, a group that likes to eat late. But instead of going national with its late-night business, Chipotle is targeting "college towns that eat the most Chipotle," the chain announced Wednesday. The fresh-Mex chain, which has more than 3,250 restaurants, said 53 college towns will stay open until midnight on Halloween – a busy night for the brand. "Over the past two years, Chipotle has seen a 30 percent increase in transactions after 8 p.m. on Halloween and 81 percent of 18- to 26-year-olds surveyed reported wanting to see Chipotle open until midnight," the chain said.

NEW YORK, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Nelson Peltz's Trian Fund Management returned nearly 3% in the first nine months of the year, investors said on Tuesday, as his bet on Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) contributed to the activist hedge fund lagging its peers' returns. Disney's stock price has tumbled roughly 30% since February, when Peltz ended a battle for a board seat but kept Trian invested in the stock. Some blue-chip activist investors, including Bill Ackman's Pershing Square Capital Management and Jeff Smith's Starboard Value, are posting better numbers. The average activist investor gained nearly 7% through the end of September, according to Hedge Fund Research data. At the end of June, the average activist investor was up 11.5% while Trian was up roughly 6%, HFR data and investors said.

REUTERS/Joshua Roberts/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Oct 2 (Reuters) - McDonald's (MCD.N) and Wendy's (WEN.O) have defeated a lawsuit accusing them of deceiving hungry diners by exaggerating the size of their burgers. Chimienti, a resident of Long Island's Suffolk County, said McDonald's and Wendy's ads depicted undercooked beef patties because meat shrinks 25% when cooked. The complaint quoted a food stylist who said she had worked for McDonald's and Wendy's, and preferred undercooked patties because fully-cooked burgers looked "less appetizing." He said McDonald's and Wendy's were not legally obligated to sell burgers by advertising them, and that their websites provided "prominent, objective information" about the burgers' weight and caloric content. McDonald's, Wendy's and their lawyers did not immediately respond to similar requests.

Fast-food drive-thru lanes are speeding up as fewer customers choose to order their meals and milkshakes sitting in their car, according to an annual study by Intouch Insight released Monday. The average total time spent in a drive-thru lane shrank by 29 seconds this year. In other words, Carl's Jr and Yum Brands' Taco Bell and KFC were only speedier because their drive-thru lanes weren't as popular. But across the board, drive-thru lanes have waned in demand since the pandemic began. Despite those efforts, this year's total drive-thru times still lag 2019 times by 15 seconds.

New York CNN —When it comes to food advertising, what you see is rarely what you get. Burger King has to face a lawsuit claiming its burgers look larger and meatier on its menus, a judge ruled.
