Universal 's theatrical retelling of the famed Broadway musical is creating buzz ahead of its Nov. 22 release with hundreds of merchandise offerings from dozens of retail partners. "Barbie" painted the town pink in 2023, and now "Wicked" is upping the ante by adding a splash of green. The report, which surveyed 2,000 adults in the U.S., also determined that fandom collaborations and partnered releases are most successful among niche super-fandoms. What could also drive demand is the fact that these merchandise collaborations are limited-time only.

CNN —Qatar announced Saturday that it has paused its role as a mediator for a ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas due to a lack of willingness by the sides to reach an agreement. After months of stop-and-go negotiations, efforts to reach a ceasefire and hostage release deal – a top priority for President Joe Biden – remain stalled. Officials in Doha have also decided to close Hamas’ political office in the Qatari capital, a diplomat familiar with the decision told CNN. In April, Doha made a similar move in temporarily closing the Hamas office. As talks faltered, the Biden administration and Israel asked Doha to bring them back, the diplomat told CNN.

At least 1,017 out LGBTQ candidates ran for election this year, a 1.1% increase compared with 2020, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, a political organization that tracks and supports LGBTQ candidates for elected office. The LGBTQ+ Victory Fund endorsed and tracked 477 of the LGBTQ candidates who made it to the general election. As of Friday afternoon, about three-quarters of those races had been called, with LGBTQ candidates having a success rate of approximately 80%. LGBTQ candidates won elections to at least 37 state legislatures this year, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, and several were historic firsts. “Having LGBTQ+ candidates in the halls of power will be paramount in helping to protect and uphold pro-equality values,” Meloy said.

New York CNN —Elwood Edwards, a behind-the-scenes graphics and camera operator at local Cleveland television station WKYC whose voice was propelled to worldwide fame after he recorded AOL’s email greeting, ‘You’ve Got Mail,’ has died, according to his former employer. More than 30 years ago, Edwards recorded four iconic lines for what was then a little-known company called America Online. His wife, Karen, worked at Quantum Computer Services, which eventually became AOL, Edwards said in an AOL YouTube video in 2012. She volunteered her husband, and Edwards recorded the phrases on a cassette deck in his living room. “I didn’t enjoy being on camera as much as I enjoyed being behind the scenes,” Edwards said on the podcast.
