For the most part, my husband and I focus on the things that matter and avoid the ones that don't. So when my kids want to play outside and get dirty, we let them — we even encourage it. Their imaginations have let them build cities, slop in mud troughs like pigs, and fill the kiddie pool with dirt — and it's all fair game. But I have a solution there, too: I don't let it bother me. We also don't mind when they wrestle, though we do have a few rulesWe have a similar outlook on wrestling.

CNN —Sometime in late April, the Jewish cemetery in upstate New York where both of my parents are buried was vandalized. For now, the perpetrators remain unknown, though their motivation seems obvious to everyone in the Jewish community, near and far. Having been immersed in my highly autobiographical pages for two semesters, the students ask me questions that are respectful yet probingly intimate. Hong Kong CNN —China is a “decisive enabler” of Russia’s war against Ukraine, NATO leaders said Wednesday, as the defense alliance hardens its stance on Beijing and the “systemic challenges” they say it poses to their countries’ security. For the third consecutive year, leaders of New Zealand, Japan and South Korea attended the NATO leaders’ summit in another sign of closer ties between the bloc and those countries, as well as Australia. NATO’s increasing focus on AsiaThe NATO leaders’ declaration is the latest step in what has been the bloc’s gradual hardening of tone on China in recent years. NATO leaders first mentioned the need to jointly address “opportunities and challenges” posed by China in a 2019 declaration, before moving to refer to “systemic challenges” the country poses in 2021. “The Indo-Pacific is important for NATO, given that developments in that region directly affect Euro-Atlantic security,” the leaders said in their declaration.

Both companies made a splash at this year's upfront presentations, where streamers make their pitches for the nearly $70 billion in annual TV ad spending and advertisers seek to lock down the bulk of their annual TV ad commitments. But among newer streamers, it's Amazon that's winning advertisers' wallets, several ad buyers told Business Insider. AdvertisementAmazon's big increase in ad inventory and lower ad prices, of about half the ad rate ($30 per 1,000 impressions) that Netflix sought when it launched its ad tier in 2022, put pressure on other TV ad sellers to lower their prices. A second ad-holding-company exec said they expected Amazon to be the third or fourth biggest TV ad seller in the upfronts, behind traditional TV stalwarts NBCUniversal and Disney and potentially YouTube. Data has shown that people watch three times as much Netflix as they do Prime Video, although Prime Video viewing is growing.

Crypto investors have been feeling a kind of déjà vu with the sluggish price of bitcoin having barely budged for months now. However, data shows demand for the cryptocurrency has slowly been returning and could soon be reflected in prices. The increase in bitcoin price, however, will depend on growing demand for bitcoin, which usually increases before showing up in prices, he added. "This is typically a high growth rate, so we are already in a high demand growth environment. … Last February-March, prices rallied stronger when demand growth surpassed 6% month-over-month growth."

The first good thing about Rascal was his wiggling, leaping “You’re awake!” greeting at the start of every day. Because the second good thing about Rascal was his irrepressible joy. There is no gratitude like the gratitude of an animal rescued from a life of pain and fear and hunger. The third good thing about Rascal was his undimmed delight in what may have been the first real home he ever had. He turned laundry folding into a game of keep-away, and then a game of tug of war.

Don’t mellow my harsh, dude. I hurried past Penn’s three surfboards and silver Airstream in the front yard, half expecting to see the un-pacific denizen of the Pacific Coast wrestling on the floor with the photographer. Penn, in dark T-shirt, Columbia utility pants and sneakers, was charming, trailed by his adoring dogs, a golden retriever and a German shepherd rescue puppy. When I joked that I was relieved to see him treating the photographer sweetly, he laughed. “When I did my 23andMe,” he said, “I thought I might be part Hopi because they don’t like to be photographed.”

Tracking a Single Day at the National Domestic Violence Hotline They call from work, to avoid being overheard, or from home before someone returns. The legal battles have underscored the pervasiveness of domestic violence and the strains on existing support for survivors. To capture a snapshot of the experiences of domestic violence survivors, The New York Times observed some of the calls and messages the hotline received in one day. Congress approved creation of a national hotline dedicated to domestic violence in 1994, including it in the landmark Violence Against Women Act. Josie Slawik, who began working to support domestic violence survivors after she arrived at an El Paso shelter, was there when the hotline took its first call in 1996.

When Willie Mays was perfecting his craft on the sandlots around Birmingham as a teenager in the 1940s, there was hardly anything bigger among the Black community than baseball. Overflowing crowds of Black fans packed Rickwood Field, the local ballpark, when the Birmingham Black Barons played, and on Sundays church would let out early so worshipers could watch baseball. “I don’t think they know anything about Black baseball as such,” said Charles Willis, 92, a high school teammate of Mays who played one season for the Black Barons, referring to Black children in Birmingham today. “Because nowadays, Black kids don’t play baseball.”Major League Baseball went to Rickwood this week as a tribute to the history of the Negro leagues, a celebration that will now encompass a memorial service for Mays, who died on Tuesday at 93. One by one, each country with the money and the drive to compete started its own nuclear weapons program. Even with this kind of evidence in hand, science has reached only limited conclusions about how nuclear weapons testing affects individuals’ health. They helped create the 2021 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, signed by 93 countries, which bans the possession, use and testing of nuclear weapons. France has acknowledged its “debt” to Polynesians over nuclear testing, and it created a commission in 2010 to evaluate nuclear testing victim compensation claims, but it has never apologized. We are still wrestling with the damage wrought by testing nuclear weapons in our past.
