As Americans across the country voted early in record numbers ahead of Tuesday's election, it has become clear that they are motivated, arguably like never before. But it was my daughter's vote I placed inside the envelope," wrote David Frum on X (formerly known as Twitter) last week. She told NBC News that she had voted Democrat for many years before switching parties during the pandemic and will vote for Trump this year. Other issues she said are motivating her decision to vote for her daughter’s future are inflation and the price of groceries as well as her stance against mandatory vaccination policies during the Covid pandemic. “I chose freedom, decency and democracy — along with a bright, just and prosperous future for my five children and future grandchildren,” he wrote.

And the next president — Donald Trump or Kamala Harris — along with the new Congress will set the agenda. Here are four big things the 119th Congress will have to tackle. Trump tax cuts worth trillions of dollars are expiring after 2025Major portions of Trump’s 2017 tax law totaling $3.3 trillion will expire at the end of 2025. Former President Trump has said he wants to fully extend the expiring tax breaks across all income levels and pursue deeper tax cuts. If it lapses, many Americans would see spikes in their insurance premiums, which may put pressure on Congress to act.

Anxiety over the US election could be hurting some workers' productivity. One boss is considering letting his employees work remotely in the weeks after the election. She said some workers will be busy hitting refresh on news and social sites, looking for insight into how the election might swing. Yet that doesn't mean being overly indulgent or letting workers focus too long on issues that aren't germane to the business. Despite the widespread election worries, not every indicator signals that the vexing political climate is throwing off most workers.
