In print-on-demand selling, people create designs on blank templates — T-shirts, mugs, tote bags — and wait for people to order them. And the print-on-demand store brought in more than $766,000 since 2020, according to documents by CNBC Make It. Johnson estimates a third of her store's revenue was profit, until she closed the shop earlier this month. A publicity-led influx of views lowered her store's sales conversion rate, jeopardizing her spot in Etsy's search algorithms, she says. She's already started a new print-on-demand store, she says.

Photo: iStock/Getty Images (marble)AS A LOT of women bid WFH farewell and re-embrace the office, the barely functional mini purses that suited our condensed Covid lives don’t suffice. Working out no longer means posing on a yoga mat in the living room, and “going to drinks” demands more strategy than sipping post-Zoom cocktails on a couch. Now we run to spin class, spend hours in cubicles, socialize face-to-face and schlep a tote stuffed with essentials for all of the above.

During the first spring of the pandemic, my two daughters and I taught ourselves to rescue frogs. On our daily walks along a riverbank in rural North Carolina, we often came across the stirring of young life. Transparent strings of tadpole eggs and wriggling green tadpoles lay in murky puddles that would soon dry up in the sun. It’s a reminder to look at our immediate environment, our close neighbors and community spaces, and to take action from there. Eventually, I realized that my most significant impact would be on the political races closest to home.

This article contains spoilers for Episode 10 of the second season of “And Just Like That …”For most people, moments of rest are not the time for polished outfits, especially in the post-pandemic swirl of athleisure. Target CEO Brian Cornell said "negative reaction" to the retailer's Pride merchandise hurt sales and contributed to the disappointing quarterly results that the company reported on Wednesday. He said the company saw behavior by some shoppers in June that "caused our teams to feel unsafe at work." He said the effort helps Target better reflect the communities it is in, which "adds tremendous value for our shareholders." When Target reported its results Wednesday, executives declined to estimate the financial hit from the Pride merchandise response. Some of the merchandise that came under fire was made by vendors rather than part of Target's own brands.

The circus has to make money to keep its clowns clowning. Coming out of the pandemic, Cirque du Soleil was in trouble. After filing for bankruptcy protection in 2020, Cirque decided it had to be more than just a circus. It wanted to be a brand, something that could sell perfumes, sunglasses, tote bags and video games. So over the past year the circus brought in consultants, which yielded months of meetings peppered with phrases like these.

She envisioned a small line of merch: simple hoodies and tote bags and hats embroidered with “Sporty & Rich.” Then she began to envision a different life for herself — one of less hustle and more leisure. She moved to Los Angeles in 2018, and now her T-shirts are printed with phrases like “Health Is Wealth!” and “Drink More Water!”

There were the babydoll dresses that few besides the actress Mia Farrow ever wore with greater élan. “Her style was very different from American style,” Ms. Sui said, and it introduced “something new to our fashion vocabulary.” What exactly was it about that style, the designer was asked? Perhaps, in the end, the Hermès Birkin bag provides the best example. Before its invention, Ms. Birkin was often photographed toting a straw marketbasket crammed with makeup, keys and assorted paraphernalia. “I would love to have been a sort of neat person and wear a Kelly,” Ms. Birkin once explained, referring to a prim, boxy-style handbag created and named for the film star Grace Kelly.

I’m going on a two-week hiking trip in August and am trying to figure out what to pack. We’re limited to about 33 pounds, so I need to pack light. I’d love to put together a wardrobe that’s practical, chic and wearable beyond the trip. The capsule holiday wardrobe is the holy grail of travel: an interchangeable, efficient system of dressing that in an ideal world necessitates no more than a tote and a bag that will fit in an airplane overhead bin. The weight of stuff falls from your shoulders, as does the time spent deciding what to wear.

Gen Z and millennial shoppers are ditching handbags for fanny packs and tote backs. The pandemic made remote working a norm and this popularized casual wear for various occasions. According to new data from consumer behavior analysis firm Circana – which tracks the online and in-store purchases of 150,000 US consumers – Gen Z and millennial consumers aged between 18 and 34 are buying fewer handbags than older shoppers. "Versatile, hands-free options, including backpacks and fanny packs, have proven to be very desirable," she added. Fanny packs have had a comeback in recent years among younger generations because they're small enough to hold essential items when going clubbing or to a festival.

MSCHF, the creative collective responsible for the Big Red Boots that clomped across New York Fashion Week in February, is thinking smaller for its next accessory release. On Wednesday, the group plans to unveil its Microscopic Handbag, a specklike rendition of Louis Vuitton’s OnTheGo tote. This is not the kind of tote bag that can be filled up with vegetables at the farmers’ market: At most, it could be used to carry around a platelet or two. Kevin Wiesner, the chief creative officer of MSCHF, positioned the bag as a commentary on the impracticality of ever-shrinking luxury handbags. “I think ‘bag’ is a funny object because it derives from something rigorously functional,” he said in an interview.

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow enters the courtroom for her trial in Park City, Utah, March 24, 2023. Gwyneth Paltrow may have had the last word at the conclusion of her ski accident trial in March, but it was her head-to-toe "old money" look that is still echoing through society today. Also buoyed by the elite world depicted in HBO's "Succession" and Kim Kardashian's monochrome mega mansion, the "quiet luxury" trend has quickly caught on, even though, these days, most Americans are more likely to live paycheck to paycheck. What is quiet luxury? Fortunately, the quiet luxury trend is less about buying the exact item, but rather replicating the look with clothes that fit well, in neutral tones or monochrome, she said.
