When Tiger Woods addressed his long-anticipated comeback from ankle surgery that has sidelined him since April, he delivered something even juicier than updates about his own future: his insight into the uncertain future of professional golf. Woods, who’s set to tee off Thursday at the Hero World Challenge that he hosts in the Bahamas, said his ankle is now pain free and that he hopes to play as much as once a month next year. But from his powerful perch inside the negotiations, the 1,328th ranked golfer in the world also provided some of the most revelatory remarks about the status of the stunning pact between the PGA Tour and its Saudi-backed rival.

The European tour wanted it. And, after some reflection, Luke Donald wanted it, too. Emboldened by seemingly unanimous backing, Donald accepted an offer to stay on as Europe's Ryder Cup captain for its defense of the 17-inch golden trophy in 2025 at Bethpage Black in New York. That's the last time an away team has won the Ryder Cup. You would think he was going to be a Ryder Cup captain at some point and if it’s this time, great.

The other direction is working toward a finalized deal by the end of the year, or soon thereafter. Extensive damage at a Florida dome venue is potentially a big blow to the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy-backed tech-infused golf league two months out from its launch. Photos surfaced earlier this week showing that the air-supported SoFi Center dome, located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, had collapsed due to a power outage. "We are still assessing the damage and determining the impact on our timelines," the league, TGL, told CNBC. The indoor golf league, which counts the PGA Tour as a partner, is slated to launch on Jan. 9, featuring about two dozen tour golfers. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods ' ex-girlfriend has dropped her lawsuits against the golf superstar and the trust that owns his Florida mansion, saying she never accused him of sexual harassment even though her attorney has made that claim. She had claimed that Woods promised she could live at the 30,000-square-foot (2,800-square meter) beachfront mansion until 2026 but kicked her out unexpectedly last year. Woods' attorney, J.B. Murray, declined to comment. Hodas argued the nondisclosure agreement was unenforceable under a new federal law that says such contracts can be voided when sexual abuse or sexual harassment occurred. “A boss imposing different work conditions on his employee because of their sexual relationship is sexual harassment,” Hodas wrote in a May filing.

At 20 years old, golf phenom Rose Zhang has a reputation for poise under pressure—for being calm and disciplined in her approach to the game and her expectations about herself. Although known for breaking records and dominating the competition as an amateur, in June when she became the first woman in more than 70 years to win her professional golf debut, she expressed surprise: “I honestly didn’t even expect to make the cut.” After tying for third in the Maybank Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in late October, she said she just feels “really lucky,” adding: “I still have lots to learn.”Under that demeanor is a fierce drive. “Even though I’m considered pretty mellow, pretty chill, I definitely do have a very competitive spirit,” Zhang says over video from Malaysia just before the Maybank tournament. She has admitted that as a rising star on golf’s junior circuit in Southern California, she kept her 25 or so gold medals but threw away up to 20 silver ones, because who cares about second place? “I think that fight in me, that grind, has definitely allowed me to be where I am now,” she says.
