Apple's advertising empire is extending into its Apple TV service. Apple's advertising empire is set to expand beyond the App Store when Apple TV begins broadcasting Major League Soccer for ten seasons beginning February 2023 — a global deal that is costing Apple $250 million per season. The next tier comes at $3 million and the last tier was described by one person familiar as more "a la carte," in which advertisers can cherry-pick a smaller number of specific placements. The Apple TV app will host an exclusive MLS streaming service, and Apple TV+ customers and MLS season ticket holders will be able to access it for free. Today, that business is mostly focused on search ads in the App Store, as well as ads within its News and Stocks apps.
The National Football League is in advanced talks to give Google’s YouTube exclusive rights to NFL Sunday Ticket, a subscription-only package that allows football fans to watch most Sunday afternoon games, people familiar with the matter said. An agreement could be reached as early as Wednesday, following a meeting of NFL owners, who approve rights deals.
A partnership with Apple would allow the NFL to build a relationship with the deepest-pocketed company in the world. But existing restrictions around Sunday Ticket have slowed negotiations between Apple and the NFL in recent months, according to people familiar with the matter. The NFL and Apple, two of the most powerful corporate entities in the world, are used to getting what they want. "We weren't interested in buying sports rights," Cue said this week at a Paley Center for Media panel in New York. Those deals guarantee exclusivity of local games.

The National Football League has reached a multiyear deal with Apple Music to sponsor the Super Bowl Halftime Show, beginning with the American football championship game in February 2023, the league said on Thursday. Over 120 million viewers watched the 2022 Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, which featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar. Super Bowl LVII will be played on Sunday, Feb. 12, in Glendale, Ariz. The tie up will be a key promotional platform for Apple, which has been associated with music since 2001 when it introduced the iPod digital music player. Apple is among a number of companies bidding to become the next home for the NFL Sunday Ticket, a package that lets fans watch every Sunday football game, according to sources familiar with the matter.
It's streaming on Apple TV+. Currently, users only need an Apple ID — an account — but don't need to pay $5 per month for Apple TV+. Apple has never revealed subscriber numbers or viewers for any of its shows or broadcasts on Apple TV+. In a break from its historical preferences, has made Apple TV+ apps for several non-Apple platforms, including Roku, Amazon's Fire TV, Google TV, and game consoles, allowing its broadcasts to reach a wider market. As CNBC previously reported, Apple has bid for NFL Sunday Ticket, a package of rights to out-of-market NFL games, competing against Amazon and ESPN parent Disney.
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is more than just a TV show for Amazon. That's because "The Rings of Power" — which Amazon spent nearly $500 million to produce and is a Jeff Bezos passion project — isn't just a TV show for the company. As part of the larger Amazon ecosystem, Prime Video isn't just a typical streaming service. "The Rings of Power" is the peak of this effort when it comes to Amazon's TV aspirations. And the "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" movie trilogies are both available on Prime Video with a subscription.
