As the creative force behind the look of the wildly popular 1970s London fashion store Big Biba, Thomas knows a thing or two about engineering excitement. “An act of bravery”Interior designer Thomas had already designed Hulanicki and Fitz-Simon’s home and the third Biba store in 1968 before being approached about the landmark seven-level store. “Fitz offered me two floors (of Big Biba) but I wanted it all,” he recalled of his initial involvement. Tim WhiteWhile Wintour’s shopgirl life was short-lived, Big Biba’s staff were a vital component of the experience remembered Thomas. In 1969, the independent company sold a majority of its shares to another British fashion retailer Dorothy Perkins which, in August 1973 (a month before Big Biba opened), was then bought by a property development company called British Land.

The Marvell Technology Group Ltd. headquarters building stands in Santa Clara, California, U.S., on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011. Marvell Technology forecast first-quarter results below market expectations on Thursday, hurt by weak demand for its custom chips used in artificial intelligence applications, sending the company's shares down about 8% in extended trade. The company had flagged in November that it expects roughly half its revenue to decline in the first quarter, weighed down by weak demand in its wireless carrier and enterprise markets. The company forecast first-quarter adjusted earnings per share of 23 cents, plus or minus 5 cents, compared with estimates of 40 cents per share, according to LSEG data. The company reported fourth-quarter revenue of $1.43 billion, beating estimates of $1.42 billion, on the back of rapid adoption of artificial intelligence.

That’s all I could think when yet another Saint Laurent model appeared wearing what was essentially a nylon stocking transformed into a dress. Of the 48 looks teetering out on needle-sharp stilettos in the Saint Laurent show, only 12 didn’t have breasts front and center (and of those 12, three were minidresses with their own built-in garter belts to attach to the stockings below). Forget about the practicality of making a pantyhose dress, or the question of who would want to wear it in the first place. Maybe at one point, when Yves Saint Laurent was first pushing boundaries and making a sheer blouse back in 1966, so much visible skin was a shocking, subversive thing in public or on a fashion runway. Maybe in the beginning it was empowering: an escape from the prison of old mores and outdated gender rules.

Some products, including those in grocery stores, would barely change in price, Brown said. Misinformation about plant-based meat is 'scaring customers away'Beyond Meat posted net revenues for 2023 were $343.4 million, a decrease of 18% compared to 2022. It attributed declining US sales to weak demand for plant-based products, as well as Beyond Meat offering more discounts.

What about diabetes, cancer, thyroid disease, high blood pressure or heart disease? Some of the questions might seem unexpected to those who don’t write about brain health. However, my risk of developing vascular dementia, the second most common type after Alzheimer’s disease, is elevated. "Such spikes cause brain inflammation, disrupt brain metabolism and increase shrinkage of the thinking part of the brain," Isaacson said. That's because, the DNC argues, many states — including Arizona, Illinois and Michigan — have rules that candidates or their campaigns be the ones collecting ballot signatures, meaning Kennedy's campaign will have to violate federal rules to meet state requirements. “They simply cannot comply with federal law and state law at the same time,” DNC legal counsel Bob Lenhard said on a conference call with reporters. Tim Mellon, a major donor to Donald Trump, gave American Values $15 million last year, according to federal filings. In December, a campaign watchdog group filed a complaint alleging that Never Back Down, a super PAC supporting Republican Ron DeSantis, was coordinating too closely with the Florida governor's since-suspended presidential campaign. But Linhart said the DNC took the unusual step of filing a complaint against Kennedy itself because what was occurring was “striking” and “dramatic” given that some states mandate candidates or their campaigns collect ballot signatures.

expect retailers to start stocking more "green" meatballs and bean burgers in place of fake-meat products amid rising concerns about ultra-processed foods. Plant-based meats are generally regarded as healthier than meat products because they're typically lower in fat and higher in fiber. "We're not sure that the demand is going to be there for those products," Firth said. Firth added that he expected plant-based meat manufacturers to increasingly focus on having cleaner labels by reducing the number of ingredients. "So I think moving forward we'd like to see more plant-based options that don't even have to shout about being plant-based or vegan.

Plunging temperatures have put much of the country in a deep freeze this holiday weekend, combining with snow, freezing rain, ice or gusty winds in some places to endanger nearly 100 million people from Northern California to coastal Maine. Forecasters said hundreds of records gauging the cold could be broken this week, as frigid air gripped a huge swath of the nation, including southern cities like Dallas, Memphis and Little Rock, Ark. Other places braced for sleet or snow, with Buffalo, N.Y., expecting up to two feet of snow. While some people hunkered down indoors, stocking up on food and firewood, others braved the cold to attend events for the Iowa caucuses, cheer on their favorite teams at the Chiefs-Dolphins N.F.L. playoff game or go skiing, among other activities.

Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan speaks as he is interviewed by CNBC outside the New York Stock Exchange on Dec. 9, 2021. With the peak Christmas travel season just days away, Southwest Airlines ' CEO vowed that the carrier will not have a repeat of last year's meltdown that stranded thousands of customers and cost the airline more than $1 billion. "It will never happen again," Bob Jordan said at an event Thursday at the Wings Club in New York. Last year, Southwest canceled close to 17,000 flights over the crucial Christmas and New Year's holiday period as it failed to recover from severe weather that gripped most of the country. Southwest struggled with staffing issues as storms left flight attendants and pilots out of position for their next flights, thousands of passenger bags piled up and planes were behind on de-icing.
