CNN —Manchester United has announced the appointment of Rúben Amorim as the club’s new first-team head coach, following the sacking of Erik ten Hag. The 39-year-old has also won the Portuguese League Cup twice with Sporting and once with former club Braga in 2020. Sporting said in a statement that United will pay the Portuguese club €11 million ($11.95M) as a release fee to hire Amorim as first-team coach. Under the Dutchman, United won the 2023 League Cup and 2024 FA Cup but has struggled desperately in the Premier League. New York AP —After 42 seasons, Bob Costas is retiring from baseball play-by-play. Costas had done games the past couple seasons for MLB Network and TBS Sports. Costas’ contract with TBS expired at the end of the season, but his plans to retire from baseball play-by-play had been in the works for over a year. Morgan Stanley is introducing a new portfolio for investors tied to the most prominent sports leagues. Morgan Stanley is hoping to change that. The idea for the new offering first came about when a Morgan Stanley client asked the bank to design a portfolio made up of the companies that support a specific sport. "This one person represents many, and multiples of many that are looking to invest in sports as a fan looking to get engaged." Morgan Stanley says the portfolio will mimic the risk characteristics of the S&P 500.

CNN —Australian golfer Jeffrey Guan’s dreams came true in September, as he made his PGA Tour debut. A week later, the 20-year-old was left blinded in one eye after being struck in the face by a golf ball. The freak accident occurred during a pro-am tournament at Catalina Golf Club in New South Wales, Australia. Guan was later airlifted to Canberra, where he underwent surgery on his eye. Guan is a two-time junior national champion in Australia and was primed to start his breakthrough in the professional game.

CNN —People who only exercise on weekends have a similar risk of developing mild dementia to those who work out more frequently, a new study has found. A team of academics from Latin America and Europe set out to determine whether the frequency of exercise affects the risk of developing mild dementia. The finding led the team to conclude that 13% of cases of mild dementia could be avoided if all middle-aged people exercised at least once or twice a week. When compared with the group that did not exercise, the weekend warriors were 13% less likely to develop mild dementia, and those in the regular and combined groups were 12% less likely. I feel quite strongly that the weekend warriors around the world should be told that what they are doing is fine.”He added: “The weekend warrior research is starting to add up now.

The International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) made blind soccer one of its official sports in 1996 and it has been a men’s Paralympic event since 2004. Finding the lightAfter decades of civil war, South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011 following a referendum, making it the world’s newest widely-recognized state.
