But you can get one of the chain's best deals without ever setting foot in the store. That's because Costco loyalists know there's no better place to buy gasoline than at the wholesale giant's pumps, which regularly undercut the competition. Costco said in its report that it believes its gasoline business "enhances traffic in our warehouses." Even if you're not a Costco shopper, the savings on gasoline alone can make the price of a $60 membership worthwhile. Using a little back of the envelope math, David and Susan conservatively estimate that a member would only need to drive 7,500 miles per year while exclusively buying Costco gas before their membership pays for itself.

Former President Donald Trump has spent years attacking Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden's only surviving son, and raising campaign cash on his unfounded claims that the Biden family is corrupt and above the law. Long before Hunter Biden was found guilty Tuesday of three federal gun crimes, Trump made the 54-year-old lawyer and recovering drug addict the centerpiece of his bare-knuckle campaign against Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election. The latest Trump ads on Google and YouTube are also devoid of any mention of Hunter Biden. "Trump and Republicans have accused Hunter Biden of being at the center of a massive web of corruption involving his father as vice president. The Trump campaign announced May 31 that in the 24-hour period after the former president's conviction it raised over $50 million.

Southern Glazer’s, based in Miami and operating in 44 US states, is the largest wine and spirits distributor in the United States. Abandoned antitrust law from 1936The FTC lawsuit, previously reported by Politico, could come in the next few weeks and would rely on the Robinson-Patman Act of 1936, the source said. That Depression-era law prohibits suppliers from providing deeper discounts to large chains than to smaller stores. At the time, the antitrust law was aimed at helping smaller grocers survive when A&P and other chains dominated with lower prices. Milwaukee based department store giant Kohl's says it will not sponsor any events related to the Republican National Convention in that city this summer, where Donald Trump will be crowned the party's nominee for president. Northwestern Mutual is on the host committee and its CEO John Schlifske is reportedly helping to raise money for the group. The absence of Kohl's from the list of Republican convention sponsors notable, given that convention organizers have publicly touted the importance of Wisconsin-based companies helping to fund and organize the event. The Republican convention is aiming to raise roughly $70 million. Representatives for the Republican National Committee and the Milwaukee host committee did not return requests for comment.

Desperately Seeking Answers on How to Raise Boys

When the British American writer Ruth Whippman decided to thaw one final embryo, she was 42 years old. She and her husband had two sons, Solly, then 6, and Zephy, 3. As her pregnancy became visible, most people assumed she was trying for a girl. When she told them she was having a boy, people treated her “as this object of pity,” Ms. Whippman said in a recent interview from her home in Berkeley, Calif. “There was this real sense that boys were somehow disappointing.”Even her mail carrier expressed her sympathy. Ms. Whippman, a self-described liberal feminist, was watching the #MeToo movement explode all around her.

As Hunter Biden’s life and business dealings have come under increasing scrutiny in recent years, leading to this week’s trial on gun charges, the president’s son has said he hoped to keep one part of his life unscathed: his art. That high price tag — rare for a novice artist — raised questions about whether the works could attract buyers seeking to curry favor with the Biden administration. But in the end, Mr. Biden’s paintings fetched far less. He said the top price he had received for Mr. Biden’s work had in fact been only $85,000. In all, the gallery sold about $1.5 million worth of his art, according to a tally that was cited during the congressional hearing that Mr. Bergès did not dispute.

Israel attributed the blaze to rocket fire from southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah said it had launched a “swarm of drones” at Israeli military sites. On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the northern city of Kiryat Shmona near the Lebanese border, saying that Israel is prepared for “very intense action” in the north. Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon have been trading fire since the start of Israel’s war on Hamas in Gaza in October. In April, the IDF said it is “preparing to move from defense to attack,” referring to operations on the northern border. Ten Israeli civilians and 18 soldiers have also been killed on the border, the Israeli military said.

Amazon workers arrive with paperwork to unionize at the National Labor Relations Board office in Brooklyn, New York, Oct. 25, 2021. The Amazon Labor Union, the first group of company workers to organize at a U.S. warehouse, said Tuesday that it's taken steps to affiliate with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The ALU originally eschewed major labor unions, establishing itself instead as an independent organization. Aligning with the Teamsters, one of the largest labor unions in the U.S., could give the ALU additional heft to jumpstart negotiations with Amazon. In March, ALU members voted to hold an election for new union officers.

Over the past turbulent decade, through myriad self-inflicted troubles, Hunter Biden has relied on the kindness of friends and family — wives and girlfriends, business partners, his father and, most recently, a Los Angeles lawyer who provided the president’s son a $7 million lifeline. With Mr. Biden’s trial on gun charges set to begin on Monday in Delaware, Mr. Morris has said he might need to sell some real estate holdings or other assets if others do not step up to fill the gap, according to people familiar with the situation. He hopes to pressure the president’s advisers into helping find new donors, people close to the situation said. Financial troubles are nothing new for President Biden’s son, and his current woes are unlikely to prevent him from mounting a sturdy defense. But it adds a layer of stress and uncertainty, and could limit his ability to hire expert witnesses or other specialists in the gun case or in his trial on tax charges in California in September, they said.

But while Trump's small-dollar donors mobilize amid new Trump campaign ads labeling the former president a "political prisoner," Trump himself is gearing up to raise big money from wealthy Republicans. Trump campaign aides said late Thursday that it was unclear exactly how much the campaign had raised that day from small-dollar donors, but it was enough that the campaign's donation website crashed intermittently. Banks, a veteran Trump ally, told CNBC that Helberg is bridging the gap between Silicon Valley, Washington, D.C., and the defense industry. "I hope he'll play a big role in President Trump's second term and I look forward to seeing him in Milwaukee," Banks said. Helberg recently told The Washington Post that he gave $1 million in support of Trump after years of backing Democrats.

Biden's team announced that its political operation, which includes the Democratic National Committee, raised $51 million in the same period. A guilty verdict is a "non-issue," said David Tamasi, a Republican fundraiser and a managing director at lobbying firm Chartwell Strategy Group. Tamasi raised money for Trump's 2020 campaign and for former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's failed primary run against Trump last year. All of them are going back to help raise money for Trump, in spite of the guilty verdict. Using data from the Fed's Survey of Consumer Finances, the analysis finds that over a million Americans ages 55 to 64 are holding student loans, or have spouses with loans. There are a range of reasons why older borrowers might be struggling to pay off their student loans. Millennials are most likely to hold student debt with an average balance of about $35,000, and while fewer Gen Xers have student debt, their average balance is higher at about $48,000, according to TransUnion. CNN —The war in Gaza will likely continue through at least the end of the year, an Israeli official warned Wednesday, seeming to dismiss the idea that fighting would end after the military offensive against Hamas in Rafah. Israel’s national security adviser, Tzachi Hanegbi, said the year 2024 has been “defined as a year of combat” by Israel’s war cabinet. The Israeli government had previously signaled that entering Rafah would be the final stage of its war against Hamas, which attacked Israel on October 7, killing about 1,200 people and taking some 250 people hostage. In response, Israel launched a devastating offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 36,000 people, according to Palestinian officials. This resilience is what has allowed this nation to survive for 75 years, and even for 3,000 years before that.

The data does not include older Americans who have taken on student loan debt on behalf of their children. That includes about 14.9% of workers aged 55 to 64 and 17.3% of workers aged 65 and over, according to the research. The middle 40% of earners — with incomes between $54,600 and $192,000 — owe an average debt of $48,174. For older workers aged 55 to 64, it may take an average of 11 years to pay off their student loans, according to the research. "Older workers do not have decades of future potential work that younger workers have to repay their loans," Manickam said.

CNN —Israeli military tanks were seen in central Rafah on Tuesday for the first time since the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) entered Gaza’s southernmost city earlier this month, two eyewitnesses told CNN. Alaa Abu Ibrahim, a Rafah resident, told CNN that Israeli tanks were seen at the Al Awda roundabout in the center of the city. Asked about reports of tanks advancing in the city, IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said at a media briefing on Tuesday that the military is operating in Rafah in a “targeted” and “precise” way. The Biden administration has warned against a large-scale ground invasion in Rafah unless the wellbeing of civilians can be guaranteed. “Even when we do find the cause of the fire that erupted it won’t make this situation any less tragic.”Israel’s advance deeper into Rafah comes despite the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering it to “immediately halt” its military operation there.
