Uber Technologies just announced a new partnership with Spirit Halloween, opening up delivery for Halloween costumes, decor and all things spooky to be delivered on-demand via Uber Eats, Postmates and the Uber app. Uber added all Spirit Halloween stores to the delivery apps as of Friday morning, an Uber spokesperson told CNBC. The Halloween shopping season is consistently one of the largest consumer spending events in the United States. Spirit Halloween did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The ridehailing company will now deliver costumes, makeup, and even decorations from Spirit Halloween, the largest Halloween retailer in North America, Uber announced in a press release Friday. Big-box retailers are getting into Halloween earlier and earlier, suggesting American consumers continue spending on the October holiday even as they pull back from other discretionary purchases. Customers in the US and Canada can buy their Chipotle burrito costume for the same price as in store, but without having to visit the seasonal Halloween store that pops up in abandoned storefronts every year, Uber said. Yet that amount has not changed in 70 years — since 1954 — while inflation has pushed the costs for funerals higher. On Wednesday, Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt., introduced a new bill, the Social Security Survivor Benefits Equity Act, to raise the lump-sum death benefit to $2,900 to reflect today's cost of living. Under the terms of the bill, the higher $2,900 death benefit would go into effect in 2025. The proposal has been endorsed by advocacy organizations Social Security Works and the Strengthen Social Security Coalition.

CNN —Colorado beat the Baylor Bears 38-31 in a thriller on Saturday after a 43-yard Hail Mary touchdown in the final seconds of regular time from the Buffaloes forced overtime. But a 58-yard touchdown pass from Sanders to Omarion Miller before halftime cut the Bears’ lead and Colorado leveled in the third quarter. Baylor regained their seven-point lead again midway through the fourth quarter after a 24-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Hal Presley. With 2:16 remaining, Sanders helped orchestrate a magical drive which culminated in the game going to overtime following the Hail Mary touchdown to Wester. Colorado's Wester catches the Hail Mary touchdown pass to tie the game with Baylor.

While school meal prices vary throughout the country, a survey conducted by the School Nutrition Association, a trade organization, found that lunches typically cost about $2.83 for elementary school students, $3 for middle school students and $3.05 for high school students. The prices mean that the $100 million in transaction fees could have bought another 33 million or so school lunches or over 55 million school breakfasts. “Junk fees on school lunch should not exist.
