First-quarter revenue came in higher than expected at $26.04 billion compared with the LSEG estimate of $24.65 billion. The company issued strong guidance, saying it expects $28 billion in revenue for the current quarter, beating the LSEG estimate of $26.61 billion. Shares passed $1,000 for the first time, reaching an all-time high of $1,051.96 during intraday trading, and are up about 111% this year. Nvidia on Wednesday announced a 10-for-1 stock split, with shares set to begin trading on a split-adjusted basis at market open on June 10.

A new Zillow and StreetEasy analysis finds that rental price growth is far outpacing wage growth in most big cities — and New Yorkers are particularly screwed. In New York City, rents increased seven times as fast as wages from 2022 to 2023. Similarly, renters in Boston, Cincinnati, and Buffalo are seeing their wage growth dwarfed by their rent increases. But it's not all bad news for prospective and current tenants: There are still a handful of cities where wage growth has outpaced rent increases. While wages rose by 5.5% between 2022 and 2023, rents increased by just 0.8%, the Zillow/StreetEasy report found.

Jensen Huang started his trillion-dollar tech company Nvidia while eating at a Denny's restaurant in San Jose, California, he recently told CBS' "60 Minutes." Nvidia, one of the chipmakers behind the burgeoning artificial intelligence industry, is currently worth $2.22 trillion, ranking it among the most valuable companies in the world. But in 1993, it was a business idea shared by three friends and engineers — Huang, Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem — who wanted to revolutionize gaming and media with 3D graphics. But when it comes to affordability, or lack thereof, not all cities are created equal. In a recent study, Creditnews Research ranked the most populous U.S. cities by the percentage of neighborhoods financially within reach for the average married couple. To create its ranking, Creditnews used median income for married households in order to determine the percentage of unaffordable neighborhoods. Of the 10 cities with the most unaffordable neighborhoods, four are in California. Two cities in the Golden State, Los Angeles and San Jose, were found to be 100% unaffordable for the average married couple household.

Eight daily newspapers owned by Alden Global Capital sued OpenAI and Microsoft on Tuesday, accusing the tech companies of illegally using news articles to power their A.I. All are owned by MediaNews Group or Tribune Publishing, subsidiaries of Alden, the country’s second-largest newspaper operator. In the complaint, the publications accuse OpenAI and Microsoft of using millions of copyrighted articles without permission to train and feed their generative A.I. products, including ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. This, it said, reduced the need for readers to pay subscriptions to support local newspapers and deprived the publishers of revenue both from subscriptions and from licensing their content elsewhere.
