CNN —Donald Trump’s already daunting legal predicament gets grimmer by the day as new details emerge of the depths to which he was prepared to stoop to reverse his defeat in the 2020 election. And as the former president’s legal team juggles court dates in different cities this week, their task in defending Trump is getting ever more complex. The stampede of developments around Trump’s cases is providing only a hint of the political and legal collision that is likely to unfold next year. But data from Trump’s account could potentially provide information about which phone – and potentially person – posted tweets to the account. Twitter data might also show any direct messages sent to or from Trump’s account.

For Trump and Koch, it represents the latest chapter in the on again, off again relationship between the two parties. The theme of the ads is simple: Trump can't win, and with Trump as the Republican nominee, President Joe Biden will be reelected. The ads have landed the Koch network squarely on Trump's list of enemies, literally. "Club for No Growth and Koch Brothers operations spending tens of millions of dollars to prop up Ron DeSantis while attacking President Trump," the July 17 memo claimed. But neither the Koch network nor the Club for Growth has endorsed a Republican primary candidate.

It feels dangerous to write about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: In the lag time between when I put the finishing touches on this and when it becomes publicly available, I could be a conspiracy theory or two behind. He’s a crank who cranks out whoppers the way Taylor Swift disgorges perfect pop songs. Kennedy is where paranoia meets legacy admissions. It’s an exaggeration of inequities and injustices that really do exist, and it simplifies a maddeningly complex world. Ranting about George Soros or Anthony Fauci feels a whole lot better than raging at the vicissitudes of fate.

It echoes 1,000 years of antisemitic conspiracy theories that Jews are responsible for, yet somehow immune to, plagues and disease – beliefs that led to actual Jews being murdered by angry mobs. No, of course, we’re in Washington, DC, where politics dictates how antisemitism is, or isn’t, tolerated by those with something to gain from it. Really, it was only a matter of time before RFK Jr. stumbled into overt antisemitism. Without exaggeration, many of my Jewish friends have remarked that this mainstreaming of antisemitism reminds them of 1930s Germany. There is no equivalence between a strident anti-Israel remark and the resurrection of age-old antisemitic conspiracy theories.

CNN —Bartolomé, a US military veteran, has spent the last 15 Fourth of July holidays in Mexico. “It’s a stab in the back.”Between 2013 and 2018, 250 US military veterans were placed in removal proceedings and 92 were deported. Unfortunately, an accurate count of deported veterans is nonexistent, because Immigration and Customs Enforcement does not keep a comprehensive record of removed US veterans. Veterans who did not receive a dishonorable discharge are entitled to a military burial in the United States. As a result, the urgency in addressing noncitizen military members’ precarious situation is particularly palpable now.

Monday marked the official closing of UBS' acquisition of Swiss rival Credit Suisse, a deal both sides weren't exactly thrilled about. Specifically, the bank identified the Credit Suisse execs sitting in positions of power within its investment bank and wealth management division. UBS has not been bashful in hinting at what it is, and is not, interested in integrating from Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse was in rough shape by the time it got acquired, but that's not to say there weren't talented bankers there. For the second time this year, Democrats find themselves in a complicated position: torn between celebrating a long-sought indictment of Donald J. Trump and proceeding with caution. The party is in near-universal agreement that Mr. Trump should face federal charges for retaining classified documents and resisting investigators’ efforts to recover them. When Mr. Trump was indicted in March, Mr. Bennett questioned whether the offenses the former president had been accused of were worth the political risk of an indictment. This time, Mr. Bennett said, he has no doubts about the indictment’s necessity. Already, many leading Republicans have rallied around Mr. Trump; some have gone so far as to suggest outright war.

George Soros has handed the reins of his empire to his 37-year-old son, Alex, marking the end of an era on Wall Street. For decades, Soros’s moves were scrutinized, followed and sometimes even imagined by rival traders. Soros, who ran the Quantum Fund, one of the most successful hedge funds in history, traded stocks, bonds and currencies all over the world, becoming a pioneering ‘global macro’ investor. He built a fortune in the 1970 and 1980s making big bets that anticipated economic and political shifts.

An Open Society Foundations spokesperson confirmed to Insider that Alex has been named chair of the Open Society Foundations.

After decades running one of the most prominent and politically active financial empires, George Soros is handing the reins of his $25 billion Open Society Foundations to his son Alex, the grant-making network confirmed on Monday. Alex Soros, the second-youngest of George’s five children, was elected the foundation’s chairman in December. He also serves as president of the Soros super PAC and is the only family member on the investment committee for Soros Fund Management, a private investment management firm.
