Kraków was full of well-preserved history. We were also fascinated with Rome's ancient history during our Italian vacation, but Kraków surprised us with an incredible mix of older and newer sites. As Luc explained on the episode, the city is special because it remained relatively unscathed during World War II. It's one of the best-preserved cities in Europe, with a charming old town square and an enchanting Jewish quarter. Kraków was also an important place for us to learn more about modern history, including visiting Schindler's Factory and paying respects at nearby Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Rome CNN —Hundreds of posters have appeared on billboards across Italy this summer, bearing the slogan: “Russia is not our enemy” and depicting a handshake in the colors of the Italian and Russian flags. In Rome, the posters drew ire from the mayor’s office because they featured both the city’s name and its official symbol. In a decree to local police and the advertising company that owns the billboards in Rome, it ordered the removal of all posters. Earlier this month, they met at the European House’s Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio, northern Italy. The Russian propaganda posters have not caused notable outcry among the Italian public, in part because they started appearing during the summer months, when most Italians take their vacations.

SINGAPORE — Pope Francis arrived in Singapore on Wednesday from East Timor, on the final leg of an ambitious 12-day journey across Southeast Asia and Oceania. Francis is only the second pope to visit Singapore, following a brief five-hour layover by the late John Paul II in 1986. Covid lockdowns, such as school closures, canceled sports activities and stay-at-home orders, prematurely aged teen brains by as much as four years, researchers from the University of Washington found. Lead researcher Patricia Kuhl, co-director of I-LABS, said that after Covid lockdowns began in 2020, they couldn’t do brain scan follow-ups until 2021. Pandemic lockdowns resulted in unusually accelerated brain maturation in adolescents. The research doesn’t prove the lockdowns caused the brain changes — mental health disorders were rising among children even before Covid. Another brain scan study in 2022 from Stanford University showed similar changes in cortical thickness in teen brains during Covid restrictions.

Divers scouring the wreckage of the superyacht that sank off the Sicilian coast have found the body of the last person missing from the luxury boat, believed to be the daughter of a British tech magnate. THE HAGUE, Netherlands — International Criminal Court prosecutors said Monday that they are “actively monitoring” events in Venezuela, where security forces have launched a crackdown on the opposition in the aftermath of the nation’s disputed presidential election. Maduro has called on Venezuelans to denounce election doubters via a government-run app originally created to report power outages. He also said the government was refurbishing two gang-dominated prisons to accommodate an expected surge in jailing of opponents. The ICC has an ongoing investigation into violence that followed Venezuela’s 2017 election but has so far not sought any arrest warrants. His office said Monday that “those investigations are continuing with focus.” It highlighted an online portal where potential evidence can be filed.
