CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris will give a speech on reproductive freedom in Texas on Friday, according to a senior Harris campaign official. And Texas was chosen as the location for the rally, campaign officials said, because it’s the epicenter of abortion bans. Before her ascension to the top of the Democratic ticket, Harris was the go-to voice on abortion rights for the then-Biden campaign. The trigger law passed in 2021 took effect after the Supreme Court overturned federal abortion rights in June 2022. While in Houston, Harris will join Democratic Senate nominee Rep. Colin Allred, who seeks to oust incumbent GOP Sen. Ted Cruz, for a get-out-the-vote effort.

A Democratic super PAC is hitting the airwaves in Texas, looking to boost Rep. Colin Allred by focusing on abortion in his underdog but increasingly competitive race against GOP Sen. Ted Cruz. CNN —Beyoncé will appear alongside Vice President Kamala Harris at a rally Friday in Houston, a person familiar with the planning tells CNN, the first joint appearance with the music icon whose anthem has been the soundtrack of the Harris campaign. The appearance, in which Beyoncé will appear with Willie Nelson, is designed to be one of the biggest closing acts of the campaign. Beyoncé all but gave her endorsement to Harris months ago, giving her permission to use her song “Freedom” as her official campaign anthem, CNN first reported in July. At one point, rumors of Beyoncé appearing at the Democratic convention threatened to overtake Harris’ acceptance speech. During her remarks, the vice president is expected to warn of the threat a second Trump term poses to women’s reproductive freedom.

California, Colorado and Hawaii will soon allow their residents to vote on ballot measures that would remove language from their state constitutions prohibiting same-sex marriage. The landmark 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, guaranteeing same-sex couples across the country the right to marry, makes these state bans unenforceable. However, these ballot measures seek to proactively protect these marriage rights should Obergefell ever be overturned. Without Obergefell, there is federal legislation that would keep same-sex marriage rights mostly, but not entirely, intact: the Respect for Marriage Act. It’s a personal issue for LGBTQ couples who had to navigate a time when same-sex marriage wasn’t legal or straightforward.

CNN —Republican women can vote for Kamala Harris — and they don’t need to tell anyone about it. Such voters need to be approached gently since she’s asking dissident Republican voters to shelve some of their most cherished political positions. Cheney’s appearances with Harris came as the vice president seeks to further widen a massive gender gap with the ex-president among women voters. A New York Times/Siena College poll this month showed Harris leading women voters by 56% to 40% over Trump. He sat down with BI to talk about the race, the national debt, abortion, and the state of his party. In an era where college-educated voters have been bleeding out of the GOP, Schweikert is increasingly an outlier, and he knows it. In order to keep looking like his district, Schweikert — a one-time conservative rabble-rouser who rode his way into Congress during the 2010 Tea Party wave — has had to make some changes. But now that Schweikert's sharing the ballot with Trump, he's not sweating that either. The Biden administration is proposing a rule that would provide women with private insurance access to over-the-counter birth control pills and other contraceptives at no cost, the White House said on Monday. “This rule, once finalized, will expand contraception coverage for 52 million women of reproductive age with private health insurance,” White House Gender Policy Council Director Jennifer Klein said during a briefing. “For the first time ever, women would be able to obtain over-the-counter contraception without a prescription at no additional cost, and health plans would have to cover even more prescribed contraceptives without cost sharing,” she said. Perrigo Co.’s Opill is currently the only daily birth control pill approved for sale without a prescription by the Food and Drug Administration, but the proposed rule covers other forms of over-the-counter contraceptives, including emergency contraception such as morning after pill Plan B, spermicides, birth control sponges, and condoms. The rule will also require that health plans cover all FDA-approved contraceptive drugs and some devices, including IUDs, without cost sharing in many cases.

Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris (L) holds a moderated conversation with Former US Rep. Liz Cheney, Republican of Wyoming, at People's Light performing arts theater Malvern, Pennsylvania, on October 21, 2024. Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican former Rep. Liz Cheney participated in a series of moderated conversations on Monday across the "Blue Wall" battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. The Harris campaign is courting disaffected Republicans, who may be on the fence about voting for Trump. The campaign kicked off a "Republicans for Harris" group in August and has since amplified the voices of a small, but growing, number of prominent Republicans who have come out in support of the Democratic vice president. According to Cheney, patriotic Republicans have "a duty and obligation to do what we know is right for the country."

Harris looks to ‘paint a picture’ for undecided votersSuburban moderates are far from the only group Harris’ campaign is targeting in the race’s closing days. As the Harris campaign tries to make inroads with men, podcasts like Joe Rogan’s are still under consideration, a source familiar with the matter said. “No matter your party, no matter who you voted for last time, there is a place for you in this campaign,” Harris said last week. She appealed to moderate voters and women in their 2024 primary — including many of the same voters Harris’ campaign is targeting in the race’s late stages. CNBC spoke to Foster about the economics of abortion access and the financial impacts of the end of Roe v. Wade. Diana Greene Foster: One good thing about The Turnaway Study is that our demographics closely resemble national demographics on who gets abortions. [They're also] more likely to have evictions, have a larger amount of debt if they're denied an abortion. The number of public records, such as bankruptcies, evictions and court judgements, significantly increased for those denied abortions, by 81%. With voters citing the economy and inflation, abortion, immigration and democracy as top issues in this election, the survey tested a series of policy proposals on those topics, offering clues about which policies could move voters. The survey did not identify which party or candidate is associated with the proposal. While economic policies could move voters toward a candidate, the survey also finds that election denialism could turn them off. Voters across swing groups, including suburban women, independents, moderates and seniors, say they are less likely to support a candidate who denies the election results. The NBC News poll of 1,000 registered voters, 898 of whom were reached by cellphone, was conducted Oct. 4-8.

He said a Harris administration "will build on existing programs, increasing federal spending to make health care more affordable for people." Still, Socal said a Trump administration wouldn't have much flexibility to dismantle or scale back the law without change from Congress. The IRA extended enhanced subsidies that made ACA health plans more affordable for millions of households through 2025 — a provision Harris plans to make permanent if elected, her campaign said. Former President Donald Trump declared he was "the father of IVF" during a Fox News town hall that aired Wednesday, while also saying he just recently discovered what the decades-old procedure actually is. What does it really mean to live in a country where abortion is no longer a constitutional right? New laws have forced doctors to delay care in life-threatening situations and made women afraid to seek it, leading to preventable deaths. Or, in the cases of some doctors: How can I help this patient without getting arrested? We asked people at the front lines of abortion access to help us understand how the new laws have filtered into their worlds. They answered our call with texts, audio messages, videos and pictures; some shared their stories anonymously out of fear of reprisal.
