The FBI is warning election offices to be on the lookout after threatening letters containing suspicious substances were sent to the offices of multiple secretaries of state throughout the country. A senior law enforcement official confirms elections officials in at least six states received packages on Monday, but so far none of the packages have been found to contain any actual hazardous material. Secretaries of state, attorney general offices and state election offices in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Tennessee, Wyoming and Oklahoma were targeted. The FBI, United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), and state and local law enforcement partners are investigating multiple letters containing suspicious substances which have been mailed to Secretary of State's offices. The incident is also the second time in the past year that threats have hit multiple state election offices simultaneously.

“I’m here to support my wife and everybody else that deserves the right to have freedom of their reproductive rights,” said Goldberg, a 70-year-old retired computer software developer. Women clearly feel the impact of abortion restrictions, said Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez. At the same time, he argued, there’s no precedent for reproductive rights being a driving issue for men. The couple has become surrogates for the Harris campaign on reproductive rights, including at last month’s Democratic National Convention. “I’m here because the fight for reproductive rights isn’t just a women’s fight,” Josh Zurawski said at the Chicago convention.

WASHINGTON — The Harris campaign is launching its largest effort yet to reach Latino voters, with new spending on Spanish-language radio and an organizing push around boxing matches and baseball games as National Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off this weekend. Vice President Kamala Harris will address the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s annual conference on Wednesday, according to a senior campaign official, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is expected to pitch Latino voters in swing states in the coming weeks. The Harris campaign is also planning to host gatherings around Mexican Independence Day on Monday, including voter contact events at churches. SINGAPORE — Pope Francis on Thursday urged political leaders in Singapore, a leading global financial hub, to seek fair wages for the country’s million-plus lower-paid foreign workers. “These workers contribute a great deal to society and should be guaranteed a fair wage,” he said. Many of the migrant workers come from nearby countries such as Malaysia, China, Bangladesh and India. A Singapore NGO that provides services for migrant workers, Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics, welcomed the pope’s remarks, saying they were in “full agreement” with his call for fair wages. The Vatican said Francis’ Mass drew some 50,000 people to Singapore’s national sports stadium.

Washington CNN —The Harris campaign is launching a new abortion-focused ad Thursday, capitalizing on what officials believe was one of the most pivotal exchanges between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump during Tuesday’s presidential debate. Harris’ team prepared the vice president to confront Trump on nationwide abortion restrictions. The newly released ad includes both candidates’ responses on abortion on the debate stage. Harris, in response, ran through personal stories of women struggling to get health care while navigating abortion restrictions. Harris campaign officials spent Wednesday poring over footage of the debate to identify key moments to put into new campaign TV and digital ads, according to the campaign, seeking to amplify what they perceive to be the strongest debate exchange.

The Japanese star is now just two away from equaling the Dodgers franchise record of 49 homers hit by Shawn Green in 2001. “For him to hit the ball 118 mph at that degree, it’s usually a double,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, according to MLB.com. But the Dodgers roared back in the bottom of the first with five runs, immediately turning the game on its head. After two outs, Tommy Edman continued his impressive form with a two-run homer to left field to give the Dodgers the lead. Ohtani now has 16 regular-season games remaining to find the required three home runs and two stolen bases, starting on Friday at the Braves.

Trump went on to repeat false claims that there was "so much proof" that he won the election. And he dodged when asked about whether he had any regrets about his actions on Jan. 6. Other Jan. 6 defendants continue to maintain their belief in Trump's election lies. Trump's inability to acknowledge the reality of his 2020 election loss, Harris said, raises questions about Trump's "temperament" and his "ability to not be confused about fact," calling it "deeply troubling." Brazil and Argentina both lose World Cup qualifiers

CNN —Brazil and Argentina both suffered defeats in their qualifying matches ahead of the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday. For the Seleção, the 1-0 defeat against Paraguay was particularly concerning as it marked the team’s fourth defeat in the past five qualifiers. The result leaves the five-time World Cup winner fifth in the standings with the top six sides automatically earning a spot in the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico. It was otherwise a lackluster showing from Brazil, which enjoyed 71% of possession but produced only three shots on target. Argentina has six wins from its eight World Cup qualifying games and sits two points ahead of Colombia, still unbeaten with four wins and four draws, in the standings.

Business Insider's Brent D. Griffiths has a rundown on everything you need to know heading into tonight . A newly released Times/Siena poll shows Trump holding just a one-point advantage over Harris among likely voters. For Trump, the focus will likely be the economy, which is a high priority for voters and also a sore spot for Harris. The latest Times poll showed Trump (55%) held a big advantage over Harris (42%) regarding who would be better equipped to handle the economy. Trump will also likely target Harris' biggest vulnerabilities , which may include trying to define her shifting views as disingenuous flip-flops, Brent writes.

CNN —Shohei Ohtani stole his 47th base of the season on Monday night to take him one step closer to a historic 50-50 season as the Los Angeles Dodgers lost 10-4 to the Chicago Cubs. Despite moving closer to making history, Ohtani was not the only storyline on Monday night. In fact, it was the performances of two former Dodgers, Cody Bellinger and Michael Busch, which decided the game. After the Dodgers halved the deficit in the fifth, the Cubs responded an inning later when Busch’s RBI single brought home Bellinger, and catcher Miguel Amaya batted in two more. An impressive return to LA for Bellinger was completed with an RBI single in the top of the ninth, followed by an excellent diving catch to kick off the bottom.

The U.S.-recognized winner of Venezuela’s presidential election on July 28, Edmundo González Urrutia, fled to Spain as President Nicolás Maduro heightened his repression campaign and issued a warrant for his arrest. As human rights abuses and the dismantling of democratic institutions intensified under Maduro, President Donald Trump followed with “maximum pressure” sanctions in an attempt to squeeze him out of office. A Venezuela election body stacked with Maduro backers has declared Maduro the winner of the country’s July 28 election but refused to release vote tallies. Biden resumed deportations of Venezuelans as a condition of the election negotiations with Maduro. “If you want to do something about migration, what you should not do is help make things worse for Venezuelans,” Rodriguez said.

CNN —Shohei Ohtani continued his pursuit of a historic 50-50 season Sunday, as his 46th home run of the year helped the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians. The two-time AL MVP’s fifth-inning solo shot brought him to 46 on the season, matching his career best for the Los Angeles Angels in 2021. Coupled with his 46 steals so far this campaign, the accomplishment means Ohtani is closer than ever to achieving a historic 50-50 season. After the win against Cleveland, Ohtani maintained that he is trying to put the potential 50-50 out of his mind. Ohtani has 19 regular-season games remaining to find the required four home runs and four stolen bases.

CNN —Each of the 32 colossal stones that make up the Menga Dolmen, a 5,600-year-old megalithic monument in southern Spain, is many times bigger than the largest megaliths at Stonehenge, the most famous Neolithic wonder. The upright stones that make up the walls of the chamber were not perfectly vertical, tilting inward at a gentle angle to make the building narrower at the roof than at the floor and creating a trapezoid-shaped chamber. The team calculated that each of the upright stones lean inward at a largely uniform angle of 84 to 85 degrees. The upright stones that form the walls also lean sideways against one another at a consistent angle. The Menga Dolmen sits atop a hill near Antequera, Spain.
