But his track record of handling recent crises in Russia reveals a different side of his presidential persona: one of paralysis and indecision. Despite a claim of responsibility from ISIS-K, he continued to insist that Ukraine, and the West had played a role. Dmytro Kholod, commander of Ukraine’s “Nightingale” battalion, currently in Kursk, told CNN by phone on Wednesday that he has noticed a shift in the behavior of Russian troops. It is just a strategy for perpetuating war and allowing Russia to wait us all out,” said Ryan. “Now we see that when he’s really presented with a crisis, he’s not a cornered rat, he’s just like an imposter.

More than 200 digital content creators will attend the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week with dedicated "creator credentials" that will grant these influencers special access to the party's convention. The convention committee is providing these creators with exclusive access to the week's events and guests. Creators will not be paid to attend the convention or to produce content while they are there. Like journalists, the content creators will also be responsible for their own transportation and housing expenses. The DNCC is also working with creators who can't attend in person, to grant them remote access to engage with the convention.

That's why when my in-laws, who love cruising, wanted to travel internationally, I knew the experience would push me outside my comfort zone. I'd never been on a cruise before, but I assumed it would be continually crowded, noisy, and hard to get away from others. Here's how I made my first cruising experience enjoyable. In the evenings, I even found myself going to the pool alone while my husband and in-laws socialized. Overall, my first cruise was a great experienceI was certainly hesitant about going on my first cruise, but I came to enjoy the experience.

CNN —At the end of July, Colorado became the latest US state to battle the spread of wildfires. There are satellites, which orbit the exosphere, between 375 miles (600 kilometers) and 6,200 miles (10,000 kilometers) above Earth, and also provide imagery, but often of a much lower quality than one of Urban Sky’s balloons. Another upside of Urban Sky’s balloons is cost, he says. It wants to create a model for both selling the balloons outright and operating the balloons itself while selling data as a service. “As wildfires continue to increase in frequency, intensity, magnitude and duration, such technology for managing wildfires could not come soon enough,” says Fisher.

The US Forest Service manages rentals of repurposed fire lookouts, but these historic properties are hard to come by. Dabney Tompkins and Alan Colley decided to build their own tower in the early 2000s. "We particularly liked the picture on the front cover," Colley said. The couple attempted to book a stay at the first lookout that caught their eye, but they were out of luck — it was booked through the next year. They managed to secure a last-minute overnight at a different fire-lookout tower, prompting the Portland-based pair to spend the next several years renting similar properties from the US Forest Service.

Job hunters are facing a slowing labor market, but does that mean they should accept an offer without negotiating items like salary or remote work? You can use those preferences to filter your job search and to inform your discussions with a prospective employer. How to counter an offerIf your preferred job arrangement, such as fully remote work, isn't a complete deal-breaker, Goredema encourages you to continue the interview process until you receive a job offer. An offer in hand puts you in a "much stronger" position to negotiate the terms of your employment. Then say, 'Now, I'd really like to discuss next steps, and that includes compensation,'" or whichever aspect you're negotiating.

Florida had the biggest net gain of high-earning households, according to a recent SmartAsset study . Using $200,000 of adjusted gross income as a threshold, the study examined the number of high-income households moving into and out of each state to determine the net inflow. More high-income households have left California and New York than moved in, but some states saw the opposite. "I would say that's a little unique, that these smaller-population states are really pulling their weight in attracting or pulling above their weight in attracting high-earning households," DeJohn says. CNN —Renewed fears of ethnic cleansing against the stateless Rohingya Muslim community are mounting after reports that hundreds of people, including women and children, were killed by drone strikes while fleeing violence in Myanmar’s western Rakhine state last week. Witnesses and Rohingya activists told CNN that a series of drone strikes on August 5 hit civilians fleeing fighting and violence in their villages in Maungdaw, northern Rakhine. The displaced families had been waiting to cross the river to Bangladesh at the time of the attack, they said. Forced recruitment of Rohingya men and boys is stoking religious tensions between the Rohingya Muslim and Rakhine Buddhist communities, the report said. “Ethnic Rohingya and Rakhine civilians are bearing the brunt of the atrocities that the Myanmar military and opposition Arakan Army are committing,” said Elaine Pearson, Asia director at Human Rights Watch.

Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games: What can we expect?

CNN —The Paris Games are over, the Olympic flame that hung suspended in a cauldron above the Jardins de Tuileries extinguished, and the Olympic flag handed over to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games. Now only a mere 1,432 days away, the LA Olympics begins on July 14, 2028 with its opening ceremony and will run until July 30. So, what can we expect from the Los Angeles Olympic Games in four years’ time? Los Angeles has already hosted two Olympics, in 1932 and 1984, leaving enough infrastructure in place that there won’t be any new permanent venues built for 2028, and athletes will be housed at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), instead of a purpose-built Olympic Village. Although it isn’t yet clear exactly where each and every sport will take place in Los Angeles, organizers have already announced some of their biggest venues.

Cybercrime is on the rise, but even the best antivirus software can’t thwart scammers who target the human psyche. Some of the most damaging and costly scams involve what’s known as “social engineering.” That’s when fraudsters use time-tested techniques of deception and emotional manipulation, tricking people into divulging personal or financial information, or even granting remote access to their computers. This is what happened to Barry Heitin, a 76-year-old retired lawyer who lost roughly $740,000 to sophisticated swindlers impersonating bank and government officials. People of all ages and socioeconomic levels are potential targets, but older Americans are particularly vulnerable. They’re more likely to have amassed savings, and they’re perceived to be more isolated or perhaps less computer savvy.
