Management consultancies helped design vaccination programs during the pandemic and are currently providing advice on how to rescue one of the world’s biggest banks. The $230 billion management consulting industry is a broad church: it includes companies offering everything from project management expertise to designing new organizational structures. Many big firms — think EY and KPMG — also conduct audits and advise on their clients’ tax issues, though these services are generally seen as distinct from their consulting work. In The Big Con, published in February, prize-winning economist Mariana Mazzucato and her co-author Rosie Collington argue that management consultancies “infantilize” governments by keeping them dependent on their services. Nearly 80% of firms surveyed globally have told the think-tank that consultants’ work is either of high or very high quality, she noted.
She says you should avoid coming in with "fix-it syndrome" when taking on a new role. When you begin a new role, you're full of optimism. Atlassian on Wednesday said it will draw on technology from startup OpenAI to add artificial intelligence features to a slew of the collaboration software company's programs. Atlassian has been building its own AI models for several years, but just started using OpenAI at the beginning of 2023. But Farquhar dismissed this concern, explaining that OpenAI won't be training its models on Atlassian's customer data, so Atlassian won't be necessarily making OpenAI better by giving it business. Atlassian employees have been able to use the new Atlassian Intelligence features internally, and they have become popular, especially for those leading teams, Anu Bharadwaj, president of Atlassian, said. Bharadwaj said Atlassian hasn't figured out how much to charge for Atlassian Intelligence.

A focus on companies with economic moats, combined with low competition, has helped the MOAT ETF grow to $7.6 billion in assets since its inception in April 2012. It uses fundamental, bottom-up research from the team that compiles Morningstar's Wide Moat Focus Index to target high-quality companies that are set to outperform. "It doesn't stop at just finding a company that has established a competitive advantage," Rakszawski told Insider.

As tech talent remains in high demand, Damon Packwood, founder and executive director of Gameheads, a nonprofit teaching tech and video game design skills, is making sure that underserved youth has the tools necessary to get jobs in the field. But teaching tech skills through video games was still uncharted territory. "And teaching game design to low-income students of color has value because when you break apart a video game, you get these different medias. You get sound design, level design, architecture, coding, project management, art and animation, and motion picture. And there are some partnerships we have where they just give us books, laptops that they're not using anymore or video game consoles that they don't need anymore.

I got OpenAI's ChatGPT to write some college admissions essays and asked tutors to review them. Both said the essays passed for a real student's work and might even stand up at some less-selective colleges. Nguyen called the essays "over-predictable" and they both agreed the essays wouldn't have had a chance at any top universities. One project that I'm particularly proud of is a series of portraits that I took of my friends and family. To address these issues, I decided to take a project management course and read books on effective teamwork and communication.

When you think about your resume, you tend to think of including your experience, job responsibilities, education, etc. "Skills are the most important factor when it comes to landing a job right now," LinkedIn career expert Blair Heitmann recently told CNBC Make It. Some of your skills you can work into bullets under experience but for the rest, include them under the skills section of your resume. But what exactly are soft skills? The 27-year-old is among many young workers who identify with "rage applying," a term that recently went viral on TikTok. Rage applying is a "more aggressive evolution" of what frustrated workers are doing following the "quiet quitting" phenomenon, Zimmerman added. When I was rage applying, it was a way for me to feel like I had control over my life. That is no doubt a major draw for professionals who were or want to be part of "the big quit" and "rage applying." Benefits of rage applyingNevertheless, apart from potential financial gains, rage applying and going for interviews — should you secure any — could be beneficial, said Bergen.
