House Republicans’ razor-thin victory was propelled by Trump’s decisive win over Vice President Kamala Harris in both the Electoral College and the popular vote. So far, Republicans have captured the 218 seats needed to secure the majority to Democrats’ 208 seats. Last week, Republicans flipped three Democratic Senate seats to win control of the upper chamber. They were among the 18 GOP House districts that President Joe Biden carried in 2020. Democratic challenger George Whitesides also ousted vulnerable GOP Rep. Mike Garcia in Southern California.

WASHINGTON — Over the last two years, a narrow Republican House majority has fought bitterly over everything from electing a speaker, keeping the government functioning and even passing symbolic messaging bills. Now, Republicans have clinched at least 218 seats to win a House majority, NBC News projects, but it’ll be another small one. “The House has always been a chaotic place, will always be a chaotic place. And here in the Senate, obviously, we continue to have a number of tools to exercise.”There is precedent for a narrow House majority delivering major legislation. ‘Trump is so volatile’Rep. Democrat Dave Min has defeated Republican Scott Baugh in the race for a congressional seat in Orange County, California, NBC News projects. The results come after a contentious election cycle in a swing district with rapidly shifting demographics. The number of registered Democrats is nearly identical to the number of registered Republicans in a district where unaffiliated voters largely decided the race. But Min previously told NBC News that his advocacy for the community makes him well-positioned to represent it. “Those of us who are Asian American end up representing not just our own districts but Asian Americans across the entire region, maybe across the entire U.S.”

Amid a presidential loss and hand-wringing over the wreckage, congressional gains for Democrats in New York state are one of the small bright spots shining out from the party’s bleak results. The Democratic Party lost five competitive House races in this blue state two years ago — the exact margin by which they lost the House majority. One key ingredient isn’t available everywhere: Democrats redrew the state political maps early this year, though that move gave some Democrats heartburn at the time. Protesters waved Nazi flags outside of a community theater production of “The Diary of Anne Frank,” leaving performers "understandably shaken" by the hateful display in Michigan, officials said Monday. "For this production, our cast was also on stage in character during intermission, which was when they found out as well," according to a statement by the Fowlerville Community Theater. The Fowlerville Community Theater drew direct parallels between the play — adapted from the famed diary of Anne Frank, a Jewish girl killed by Nazis in the Holocaust — and the events of Saturday night. Germany is set to hold a federal election in February, earlier than Chancellor Olaf Scholz had originally proposed after his ruling coalition collapsed last week. The election is set to be held on February 23, according to sources within the parliamentary group of Scholz' social democratic party (SPD). It is a necessary step ahead of early elections in Germany as the chancellor must first call for the vote in parliament. Lindner was replaced by Jörg Kukies who was appointed as the new finance minister on November 7. Scholz' SPD and the Green party will form a minority government in Germany until the election in February.

CNN —Germany is set to hold a snap election on February 23 after an agreement was reached among parties in the country’s fractured parliament on Tuesday, according to reports from public broadcaster ARD. The confidence vote will be held on December 16 following an agreement from all parliamentary parties, according to ARD. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier needs to rubber-stamp the date of the election, but reports suggest this is a formality. Friedrich Merz, leader of the CDU, said last week, “there is absolutely no reason to wait until January” to call the confidence vote. His government has grown increasingly unpopular in Germany, with Scholz also one of the least popular chancellors ever, according to a September opinion poll.
