The rise in India's income and wealth inequality is not a result of the poor getting poorer, Sumedha Dasgupta, senior analyst at the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) flags. India's income gap (which is the difference in wages earned between different demographic) comes alongside a worsening wealth divide too. Instead, the phenomenon comes as the "rich are getting much richer at a faster rate," she told CNBC's Inside India. India's 3 household groupsA more pressing issue brought on by India's wealth and income divide is the emergence of different categories of households with distinct standards of living. Unequal education opportunitiesThe EIU's Dasgupta attributes India's vicious wealth and income gap cycle in large part to mismatched education opportunities.

A Georgia mother was arrested and accused of allegedly endangering her son — all because the unsupervised 10-year-old walked less than a mile away from home, officials said. "It's not a super dangerous or even dangerous at all stretch of road," Patterson told NBC News, in an interview that aired Wednesday. Patterson refuses to sign this form and said she'll contest this charge that carries up a year behind bars. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday comes as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear a challenge to a similar law in Tennessee, which may ultimately determine whether all such state laws around the country can be enforced. The plaintiffs argued that the law discriminated on the basis of sex by prohibiting certain treatments based on the patient’s sex. Circuit Judge Michael Brennan, writing for the majority, rejected both arguments. Brennan, who was appointed by Republican former president and now president-elect Donald Trump, was joined by Senior Circuit Judge Kenneth Ripple, an appointee of Republican former president Ronald Reagan. Unlike going no-contact, low contact allows you to keep some form of connection with a parent. Therapists say that you can go low contact by reducing how you communicate, and how often. Australia's government has proposed a social media ban for children under the age of 16 which experts have described as a "momentous step," as parents globally call for greater regulation of tech companies. Other platforms have sought to address the harm social media can do to young peoples' mental health, with Meta's Instagram launching "Teen Accounts" in September. Zach Rausch, an NYU Stern School of Business research scientist and lead researcher on No.1 New York Times bestselling book "The Anxious Generation," said Australia's legislation was a "momentous step" and will make Australia a "global leader in protecting kids online." The Australian law would see social media platforms held entirely responsible for preventing access to children. Children who breach the law and their parents will not face any penalties.

My high-achieving high school senior had been avoiding her college applications. AdvertisementMy high school senior is typically a happy, easygoing kid who set her sights on graduating in the top 50 of her class before her first day of freshman year. Many high school graduates in our small city go to the local college for two years, then transfer to a University of California or California State school. It's an affordable route that would relieve the pressure, but she said no; she wanted a four-year college experience. My goal was to talk about college only during those scheduled times unless a deadline needed to be met during the week.

A coalition of parents attempting to block a state law that would require that the Ten Commandments be displayed in public school classrooms by next year have won a legal battle in federal court. The judge wrote that the law is "facially unconstitutional" and "in all applications," barring Louisiana from enforcing it and adopting rules around it that require all public K-12 schools and colleges to exhibit posters of the Ten Commandments. We've shown that in our briefs by creating a number of posters," Murrill told reporters. The displays included historical context for the commandments that the state believes makes its law constitutional. When asked what he would tell parents concerned about having the Ten Commandments in public schools, Landry said in August: "Tell your child not to look at them."

Many historians of women’s equality movements through the decades say that the gains won by women often didn’t benefit all women; rather, they helped privileged women secure more opportunities in society. The fight for legal equality allowed women with the necessary means to pay for college and find jobs with good salaries, for instance. In last week’s election, some women said they specifically appreciated Mr. Trump’s support for their role as mothers. Some believe Mr. Trump will support their position that parents, not the government should decide whether children are vaccinated. And they said they saw the rising cost of groceries as an affront to women trying to feed their families, and something they think Mr. Trump can stem.

Take workplace life insurance policies, which you can often opt into during open enrollment by simply checking a box. "The biggest mistake I see during open enrollment is people not listing beneficiaries or listing minors as beneficiaries on their workplace life insurance," she says. Be smart about beneficiariesIt's easy to gloss over the life insurance portion of the open enrollment. In the event of your death, the payout on your policy — often the equivalent of about a year's salary — will go to whomever you choose during open enrollment. Her advice to parents of small children: Name your spouse as a primary beneficiary and secondarily leave the money to a trust you have set up for your children.

New York CNN —“All we have to have is just a human form to be a victim.” That’s how lawyer Carrie Goldberg describes the risk of deepfake porn in the age of artificial intelligence. In the past year, targets of AI-generated, nonconsensual pornographic images have ranged from prominent women like Taylor Swift and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to high school girls. Goldberg said that for people targeted by AI-generated sexual images, the first step — however counterintuitive — should be to screenshot them. The fight to address nonconsensual explicit images and deepfakes has received rare bipartisan support. (AI-generated sexual images of children typically fall under child sexual abuse material laws.)
